II. Describe each sentence that underwent the process of conjoining or

embedding.

1. The man who I am going to marry is a virgin.

 The sentence became a complex sentence because of the dependent clause

“who I am going to marry”. The phrase is embedded to the sentence “The man is

a virgin.”

2. I will marry the man, and the man is a virgin.

 The sentence is an example of compound sentence. There are two independent

clauses connected with a coordinating conjunction. The first independent clause

is “I will marry the man.” The second independent clause is “The man is a virgin.”

They are conjoined by the coordinating conjunction “and”.

1. Raymond is a student at the University of Poland.

 Raymond is a student.

 Raymond is at the University of Poland

2. The night was dark and Roger was walking home when he heard a noise that

 Roger was walking home.

 He heard noise.

 The night was dark.

 He ran.

 A noise that frightened him

IV. Rewrite each sentence to eliminate ambiguity.

1. They found the peasants revolting.

 They found the peasants disgusting.

2. Erika does not like her husband as neither does Nathalie.

 Erika neither likes her husband nor Nathalie.

3. There is nothing more alarming than developing nuclear power plants.

 Nothing is more alarming than developing nuclear power plants.

4. The car I’m getting to drive is a Lamborghini.

 The car I will drive is a Lamborghini.

5. They said that they told her to come to them.

 The people said that they told her to “Come to us”.

6. He met his challenger in his home.

 He and his challenger met at his own home.
