Filipino Buying Behavior

Filipino consumers are more likely to buy products with brands that are already well-
known in the market. They trust the products that they have tried and tested ever since. Filipinos
also love ‘Sale’, discounted products, and even buy 1 take 1 promos. Advertising is one of the
factors that affect the buying behavior of us Filipinos. It has a great impact on how we choose
what product to try on, the latest make up products, detergents, new flavored food, the type of
clothes that pops in this era, or what brand of smartphone is the best in cameras quality and a
long lasting battery life.

Filipinos love freebies. Study shows that people are more attracted to buy products with
free gifts. In a supermarket, there is a shelves with full of products that comes in a freebies that
most of our parents always take a look around to find something interesting or useful for the
month ahead. We are being wise and practical in every money we spend. Even though we love
shopping, we take time to think whether it is a good investment or we are just being impulsive.
Chiz Escudero also stated that “If it is on sale, when you don’t need it, it’s still expensive”. Same
goes with every product that a materialistic self wants, differs with the ones you need in your
daily living.

Filipinos shop around, loyal to brands. It is a practice that whenever we are going to the
grocery, we already have a checklist either in a note or in our mind the things we are going to
buy in the store. That includes the brands we preferred to use that we believe to benefit us. In
terms of buying our regular necessities like shampoos, deodorants, detergents, and soaps, we are
being consistent with the brands we have already tried and proven effective to us. We may be
afraid to try new or other brands for it may not work the way we want it to. Our skin might also
adjust in some products with different ingredients and can cause allergies for it is new, or a newly
tried fabric conditioner leaves the clothes in a bad smell when not sun dried. That may also differ
in our food preference. We love a type of food but we are not loyal to it. We have different taste
buds and our preference of food always varies to what type of flavor or food we want to have.

Television remains the main source of product information for Filipino respondents for
items. We Filipinos always consume our free time or after school watching a primetime shows
and we constantly see commercials with different products and brands on the screen. We
sometimes choose or buy a product based on what we have watched with some famous artists
who promotes or introduce a new product like skincare, food, smartphones, and appliances. We
buy and drink Milo, Mountain Dew and buy Jollibee because James Reid promotes it. Filipina
teens tries Ponds tone-up milk cream because we want our face to be as flawless as Kathryn’s.
we switch to Samsung refrigerator because the commercial shows a two-door fridge with
separate conduction of electricity. Online sources and magazines also acts as a channel in
marketing other products. Brochures like Avon, MSE, Boardwalk, and Personal Collection sells
home and body products and Filipino parents are more likely to order with this type of strategy
for they will pay it later or after a month they receive the product.

This is the summarized answer from the questions regarding the topic ‘Filipino Buying
Behaviors’:

We, Filipino consumers love to go shopping and services from establishments like salon
and spas. We buy a product or time when we want or needed to obtain something. We buy
products or time and skills from a service in order to obtain what we want or need. We buy a skin
care product or we go to a salon to make ourselves groomed and presentable. We are able to
decide on ourselves and sometimes let others (advertisements or peers) influence you in trying
something new.

Your decision is made by asking yourself if you really need it or you just want it for your
own satisfaction. Sometimes we buy because we want to be on a trend. We want to go with the
flow with every modern thing that is happening around us. The consumers buy a product in order
to satisfy himself/herself. We want to try something if it will work on us or we buy because we
needed to. The consumer has his own preferences, on which product he has proven effective on
him. Some people choose a product over another because of an influence of a certain promotion
or an advertisement.

We Filipinos love to look around on every supermarkets, stores, and malls to buy our
wants and needs. We sometimes go to a far place in order to find something that is limited in
some place. We buy when we finally received our salaries, or budget from our parents. We also
borrow from someone to finally buy a product. There is also ‘1 month/ week to pay’ products
that will surely turn on your madness to buy that thing because you will pay it later.

We tend to buy expensive products over the cheaper one because we look for the quality
and how long that product will benefit us. We buy something because it is effective. We invest to
something more expensive because we believe it is worth the price to satisfy you. Sometimes we
perceived product as how it is priced. We buy the cheaper ones when we know we will use it for
a short period of time. We also perceive the product on how we are going to use it. It really
depends on how we are going to be practical and spend our money wisely.

Social media, modern technology, peers, and the world we live in influence our buying
behavior. We live for satisfaction. We want to work with ease so we buy something that will help
us to save our time and energy. We buy a laundry detergent that can remove all the stains
instantly and does not need extra work to clean it up. we live in advanced-world where the
technology and the people is changing fast and constantly.

Consumer’s lifestyle affects the buying behavior of a person. If you are materialistic,
spending too much money will be a problem to you and you will also encounter a hard time ion
budgeting. If you are already working, the essentials are the only things you need in working and
living after work will be your number one priority because you lack in time. You buy something
modern and fast fashion when you stay in urban area because you try to be updated to the latest
trends. Demographic factors affect people in choosing the products depending on how the way
they live. You can understand and encounter the spirit of poverty in buying when you buy wisely
and spending your money to the things you need the most. You go for the cheaper and low
quality products. Buying a product is crucial. The only rule you need to remember is that you
spend and buy the product wisely with practicality.
