Teacher provocations/ Assessing
prior knowledge
Teacher will make some
flashcards depicting
country names,
paintings and country
flags. Students will be
divided into groups of 3
or 4, and then they will
find similar cards and
write few sentences to
their understanding.
How best we might learn

Since the topic we are dealing with has a lot of


visual interpretation so students were shown
and made to understand various forms in
which art can be expressed like Paintings,
Sculptures, Pottery, Stone carvings which
dated thousands of years back.
How best we might learn
Reading through History textbook and correlating
the visual expression in the form of art (pictures) to
the functional ways of civilization.How they used to
live and items they used. Followed by discussions.

In order to find out how students respond to art,


some paintings and sculptures were given and every
child was told to write an imaginary story.
What are the opportunities for transdisciplinary
skills development and attitudes of Learner’s profile

Development of Communications skills as students did


reading of History textbooks.

Social skills as they worked as groups in first activity in class.

Students were curious and tolerant while going through text


and generated lot of Inquiry.

Students understood the connection between various forms


of Art and civilization.

Thinker, as it involved visual based thinking.


Resources Gathered/Student

Most of the pictures gathered from Internet.
Important Insights from Textbooks in the
Library.

Students were taken to Golconda fort/ local


museum for better understanding.

Children were sent to find various forms of Art in


and around school campus.
To what extent did we achieve our
purpose
The whole idea was to explain it to children
that how art is a global medium of expression.
Any form of Art be it a picture, sculpture or
stone carving says a thousand words. No
matter where does the art belong it expresses
its ideas beyond the barriers of languages and
continents.
Evidences in the form of activity where
students were given some selected paintings,
on which they express their thoughts.

It was a Success as students could establish


various connections.

Students raised questions like where they
used to get water from and what they used to
do etc.

Students wanted to paint the names of their


classmates on a big pot. They wanted to
decorate pot with various imaginary
characters.

presentation.
Teacher Notes
Teacher’s idea was that students should establish connections
when they see different forms of art. As art speaks no language
and is an open expression, it inspires and generates curiosity.
Thereby generating more Inquiry and more Thinking.To make the
children understand teacher showed them lots of pictures which
depicted ancient civilizations.In the process to explain central
idea the teacher touched upon various civilizations in history.
The same expression of Art can be explained to higher grades
as well by adding more details about various other civilizations
They saw the paintings how they expressed their culture.
Students established connections and when
they were given a random picture they were able
to do creative writing.
