Field Trip - Vancouver Maritime Museum 2019

Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Monaghan's 4th grade classes will take a field trip to the Vancouver Maritime Museum on September 25, 2019 to participate in educational programs about navigation and life at sea. Students will learn about Captain George Vancouver's explorations through hands-on activities and experiencing life aboard a small ship from over 200 years ago. Parents will drive students to and from the museum and are asked to send a bag lunch with their child. Permission slips must be returned by September 11 for students to participate.

Field trips are part of our school program and they provide students with valuable learning experiences. The purpose of this letter is to
inform you about the proposed field trip involving your child, and to seek your support and written permission for you child to participate.

Educational Purpose/Itinerary:
To participate in the Man the Oars & Chart the Course School Program. Students will also participate
in a self-guided tour of the facility as they complete an Explorer Scavenger Hunt. Parent supervisors will
lead the small groups around the Museum as they complete the tasks on the Scavenger Hunt. During the
Man the Oars program, students will examine the extraordinary living conditions on board a small vessel
and the process of navigating and charting, which resulted in an extremely accurate mapping of our
coastline. They will learn about Captain George Vancouver and his explorations. Students will
participate in hands-on activities, and they will experience what life at sea was like over 200 years ago:
living on board a small ship, charting and navigation, and foraging ashore for provisions.

Method of transportation: Parent Drivers Dress: School uniform


Lunch: BAG LUNCH – Students & supervisors are asked to bring a disposable lunch.

TIME OF DEPARTURE FROM SCHOOL: 9:00 SHARP!


RETURN TO SCHOOL: 2:30
FOR INSURANCE COVERAGE AND SAFETY, TRIPS MUST BE DIRECTLY TO AND FROM THE SCHOOL EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES
