Describe your project entry.

Saving one’s life in danger is not only the concern of selected people but the major duty of
everyone. As what we have observed from the past volunteerism is not that visible around only few are
doing. For instance, when there is an emergency we are always dependent with others in giving immediate
first aid because we claim that we do not know how to respond. We lack volunteerism because we are not
trained to become.

The municipality of Batan in the province of Aklan is rich in natural resources commonly fishing
is the source of living. Aside from this, the place is known for its resorts that are known to all. Swimming
and boating are some recreational activities people used to do. However, the place is prone from natural
catastrophic phenomena such as typhoons, storm surges, earthquakes and others. Additionally, cases of
drowning, fire and vehicular accidents were some of the reported man-related incidents. The case of a child
who was drowned in a certain barangay and was survived because of a seaman who knows to do the CPR
and the people there appeared to be onlookers for they don’t how to do how to revive the victim. This one
of the many circumstances in our community moved us to take initiative how to empower especially the
youth in responding in such incident.

Moreover, the community has an Out of School Youth in which of them are fisher folks. They
focused themselves in helping their families survived in their daily living.

With this, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Batan Academy (A National School) aims
to implement the Project SAGIP Kabuhi Mo, Salbar Ko! (A project for the students, Out of School Youth
fisher folks, and community youth members in the Municipality of Batan fostering basic literacy, numeracy,
life support skills, survival knowledge, and rescue trainings in safeguarding everybody’s welfare.)

This project will be of great help not only for the school, community but also for every family to
have a member who knows to respond in every call of emergency and to extend support on literacy and
numeracy for the young fisher folk of Batan, Aklan.

times of predicaments.

volunteerism helping other people without anything in return. As they will immerse in the community, it
will ignite the spirit of camaraderie among members towards the attainment of the goal.

school where their children are. They will realize the additional life-learning of their children which they
will acquire from outside the four corners of their classroom.

For instance, the School Governing Council (SGC) one of the school’s internal support
mechanism which supports school’s advocacies will consider the project as scaffolding program in helping
the school-children.

Moreover, for the Municipal and Barangay council the project will be a great support in he
programs strengthening the long sought campaign for the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRMM).

The end outputs (well-trained individuals) will serve as a strong support system, partners and co-
advocates in upholding the safety of all.

For the Alternative Learning System, the project will condition the mind of these OSY on the
importance of education and encourage them to acquire education through ALS. However, if can’t make it
with the DepEd program. The project will reach them out and fill the gaps of the basic literacy and numeracy
