ADMISSION POLICY AND PROCESS

GENERAL

DPS STS School Dhaka is an initiative of STS Capital Ltd. and a fee-paying independent school for pupils
from Playgroup to Grade 12 (A Level Cambridge Board). Deciding on the right school for your child is very
important, thus we believe that a personal visit to the School is an invaluable part of the admission
process. We, therefore, hope that you and your child will take the opportunity to visit us. You may make
a prior appointment with us through our Admission Office, so that our administration is able to give you
answers to your queries and after suggestions. Our contact details are available on our website.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

The Academic Year for DPS STS School Dhaka commences in June and ends in May.

DPS STS School Dhaka is an academically selective School. Selection is based upon academic merit which
is assessed through an entry examination, an interview at the school and references from the candidate’s
previous School, as may be required. Our selection process is designed to identify pupils who are able to
benefit from our balanced and well-rounded educational programme. We strive to provide pupils of DPS
STS School Dhaka a high level of care and guidance to become future leaders in various fields.

The usual points of entry are at:

• Pre-Primary (Playgroup to KG)


• Primary & Middle (Grade 1 to Grade 9)
• Grade 11
• We usually do not admit students in grade 10 & 12 unless they are transfer cases and have
proven academic credentials.

Applicants for admission must apply only through the School Admission Form in original, which is
available at the Admission Office of Senior and Junior campuses. The Admission Form to be filled by the
Parents/lawful Guardian of each prospective pupil, will enable the School to assess eligible applicants.

THE ASSESSMENT AND INTAKE PROCESS

The aim of the assessment process is to identify potential and to provide opportunities for development
and academic growth. We are looking for highly motivated, high achieving, well-rounded pupils with a
genuine interest in education in the broadest sense of the word, with interests that stretch beyond the
confines of the academic curriculum.
Entrance tests are designed to assess the aptitude of the students in the vital subjects. All candidates
start on an equal footing and are given equal opportunities to display their academic ability in all
admission tests.
Following is the age group followed at DPS STS School Dhaka:

Admission process for Pre PG, Nursery, Pre KG & KG:

- Parents fill in the inquiry proforma and purchase the admission form at 2000 tk. and meet Principal,
Vice Principal, Head of Junior School and Head of Pre Primary if available.
-We do not take written assessment for prospective pupils for entry into Playgroup & Nursery. There is
written assessment (based on English & Maths) for prospective Pre-KG & KG students. Principal, Vice
Principal & Head of Pre Primary meet and speak to parents and child, as part of the admission process.
Selected children’s Parents/lawful Guardians are informed of admission application outcome.
- Selected pupils deposit the 1st installment (50,000 tk. for PG and 1,00,000 tk. for Nursery, Pre KG & KG)
of the Admission Fee of 2,50,000 tk. To confirm the admission.

Admission process for Grades 1 to Grade 7:

- Parents fill in the inquiry proforma and purchase the admission form at 2000 tk. and meet
Principal/Vice Principal. In absence of Principal/Vice Principal parents meet the Head of Junior School for
Grades 1 to 4.
- Come on a given date to submit the filled up form and sit for the Admission Test consisting of English &
Maths.
- Students need to get at least 60% marks (from Grade: 1 to Grade: 4) and at least 50% marks (from
Grade: 5 to Grade: 7) to get selected for admission.
-If for some specific reason in a particular subject, candidate cannot meet the benchmark specially when
a candidate is coming from National Curriculum, IB Curriculum, CBSE etc. and cannot meet the
benchmark in English or any other Science subject, then the particular HOD meets the candidate and
prescribes an alternative test paper and conducts a viva to assess the potential of the child. In such
cases, the particular HOD signs in the test paper allowing conditional admission for this kind of
candidate.
- Selected pupils deposit the 1st installment (1,00,000 tk.) of the Admission Fee of 2,50,000 tk. To
confirm the admission.

Admission process for Grade 8 and Grade: 11:

- Parents fill in the inquiry proforma and purchase the admission form at 2000 tk. and meet
Principal/Vice Principal.
- A subject choice proforma is provided along with the Application Form.
- Come on a given date to submit the filled up admission form and to sit for the Admission Test as per the
chosen subjects by the candidate. We offer Science, Commerce and mixed subjects for Grade 8 onwards
students.
- Students need to get at least 50% marks to get selected for admission.
- -If for some specific reason in a particular subject, candidate cannot meet the benchmark specially
when a candidate is coming from National Curriculum, IB Curriculum, CBSE etc. and cannot meet the
benchmark in English or any other Science subject, then the particular HOD meets the candidate and
prescribes an alternative test paper and conducts a viva to assess the potential of the child. In such
cases, the particular HOD signs in the test paper allowing conditional admission for this kind of
candidate.
Sometimes a candidate is advised not to take a particular subject, e.g. not to take Chemistry and take a
softer option/subject.
- Selected students deposit the Admission fee (1,00,000 tk. from GR. 8 and GR. 9 and 75,000 tk. for grade
11) to confirm the admission.
We usually do not admit students in grade 10 & 12 unless they are transfer cases and have proven
academic credentials.
DISCIPLINARY CLEARANCE is conducted by Admission Department for the students who want to join in
Senior classes (Grade 5 onwards). The current school of the child is contacted to obtain a clearance
about discipline.

FLUENCY IN ENGLISH

In order to cope with the high academic and social demands of the School, pupils must be fluent in
speaking English.

ADDITIONAL FACTORS

The School is oversubscribed; competition for the places at every admission stage is considerable, thus
every candidate must win his/her place on merit. All places are based on a pupil’s overall ability and
talents.
ADMISSION FORMALITIES

i. Candidates whose names are included in the final list of successful candidates, must pay the
applicable School Fee by the dates indicated on the list, otherwise the offer will
automatically lapse.
ii. Academic fee is to be paid quarterly by Cash/Demand Draft/Pay Order Drafts to Shahjalal
Islami Bank Ltd., Uttara Branch or any other Branch, unless otherwise notified in writing, A/C
Name: STS Capital Ltd. VAT at applicable rate (as and when announced) set by the
Government will be added to all the School fees.
iii. If payment of School Fees is delayed by 45 (Forty-five) days from the due date of fee
payment, the pupil’s name will be struck off from the School Rolls. Student record and
progress reports will be withheld until all outstanding fees are paid.
iv. Parents/Guardians are requested to carefully fill in and submit all the necessary forms and
documents required for admission at the time of payment of School Fee. These Forms are
enclosed in this booklet.
v. The date of birth of the child is required to be supported by a hard copy of the certified Birth
Certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation/Local Body as applicable, along with a
certified photocopy thereof, or by certified photocopy of the child‘s passport, if any. An
affidavit is not acceptable in place of birth certificate.
vi. For Grade 1 & above, Transfer Certificate from the candidate’s current school must be
attached with the application form.
vii. The child will be granted the student’s Identity card only after all necessary Forms are duly
filled, payments made and the admission formalities completed.
viii. Parents/legal guardians are to report at the Reception Counter on the date specified in the
joining instructions along with the student’s ID Card.
ix. The pupil has to report in proper School Uniform along with books and stationery as
prescribed by the school. Guidelines regarding school timing, books, uniform will be given to
parents after the completion of admission.
REFUND OF FEE

DPS STS School Dhaka has no provision to refund any school fees once they are paid under any
circumstances. The Parents/legal Guardians are strongly advised not to approach with fee refund
requests in order to avoid mutual embarrassment. The Parents/legal Guardians hereby agree that they
or their child waive any right to claim or entitlement to get refund of any School Fees paid to the School.

WITHDRAWAL RULES

The Application for Withdrawal is to be made on a plain paper addressed to the Principal and given to
the Admission Office. No pupil can be withdrawn until a written request from Parents/legal Guardian is
submitted to the office and the School approves the same. A one-month notice period or single month’s
fee in lieu thereof must be paid to the School for withdrawal.

• Clearance must be obtained from the Library In-charge before applying for withdrawal.
• Transfer Certificate will be issued after one week of the receipt of the application provided all
outstanding dues are paid to school.

OTHER INFORMATION & TRANSPORT RULES

DPS STS School Dhaka has optional pick-up and drop-off facility for pupils to and from School at a cost set
and revised from time to time by the School. It will be the sole responsibility of the Parents/Guardians to
escort the pupil to and from the fixed bus stops. The bus facility is extended at the sole risk and
responsibility of the parents.

Any suggestions or complaints should be reported to the Admin Department. Parents /Guardians are
expected to treat the bus staff courteously. Do not give instructions to the bus staff, driver or conductor
directly. The bus shall stop at the pre-decided stops only for picking up and dropping off children. Those
who are late will miss the bus.

In case a Parent/Guardian is not present at the bus stop to pick up the pupil being dropped back, the
child will be driven back to the School, from which point, the Parent/Guardian or other duly authorized
person can pick up the pupil.
MEDICAL FACILITY-FIRST AID

The School has two qualified in-house Nurses, who will provide First Aid only to a pupil when required,
such as, basic medication for fever, headache etc. or dressing of wounds.

The School cannot be held responsible for injury suffered by a pupil. First aid in school will be
administered free. No reimbursement of charges would be made towards any medical treatment in any
hospital/clinic outside.

SCHOOL’S CONTRACTUAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

Copies are posted on the School’s website and will be made available to parents as part of the admission
process.

AMENDMENTS, MODIFICATION, ALTERATION OR


REVIEW OF POLICY

STS Capital Ltd. has the unilateral right, including without limitation to amend, supplement, modify, alter or review
this policy and make any changes to any other rules, structure, curriculum, board certification, Policy or name of
the DPS STS School at its sole discretion at any time, including during, before/after an academic year. Any revision,
variation, amendment of this Policy shall form a part of this Policy and bind the candidates, Pupils and Parents/legal
Guardians who will be informed about the revision, variation or amendment if any. All revision, variations,
amendments of this Policy will be notified to the pupils and to the Parent/legal Guardian, in addition to putting it
on the School Website as a general or Special Notice.
