INTRODUCTION:
An “anganwadi” means a ‘courtyard shelter’ in India. The
system of anganwadis was developed in 1975 by the Indian government to
alleviate malnutrition in children. The anganwadis provide meals each day to
the slum children under 6 years old but also provide lessons in health and
hygiene and literacy in a nurturing preschool environ ment.
Typical anganwadis are run for a few hours a day in local houses but are
often overcrowded, sweltering in summer and have little or no light or
ventilation, making it impossible for the children to learn.
Health and education are the two most important factors for the development of a
healthy society. No nation can deny these factors. Major stakeholders of the society
are children and women, which is why it is very important to create a healthy
society. This can be accomplished by focusing more on malnourished children and
maternal health. The role of a social intuition is very important in addressing such issues.
To fulfill the objective of ‘HEALTHY MOTHER, HEALTHY CHILD’, Manav Sadhna is actively
associated with the ICDS department of the Govt. of Gujarat since 2004-2005. Since then,
Manav Sadhna has done extensive and effective work towards reducing the rate of
malnutrition among infants and maternal mortality through our 79 preschools. In 2014-
2015, Manav Sadhna along with the ICDS program created a meaningful impact in the
community through their referral services.
impossible for the children to learn . Anganwadis lack good mentors and govt. don’t usually
pay mentors enough so that mentors can pour their heart out and teach moral values to
children at their best. Major problem I found was, the amount of time children were
spending in anganwadis was about 3-4 hours and they were learning nothing at that time.
They were spending their time in just playing games and fighting and no one was worried
the children.

conditions and when we see government not taking any steps like
introducing mental, physical and emotional development subjects it
hurts. So I taught kids and workers (coming over there and about
physical mental upcoming challenges in life. How they need to tackle
situations.
regarding gender equality, Tried to explain regarding sex ratio and why it is important
4. Most Important one was, I Tried to EXPLAIN peoples over there regarding
cleanliness. One important thing that I was able to spread awareness regarding need
of cleanliness in our society. That was only things kids over there were willing to listen
about and that was nice, after that we all did clean the dust in the whole anganwadi
EFFECTIVENESS OF PROJECT:
Children realized that they need to keep their place &
First thing we all were doing daily was gathering at a point and start wiping the dust
out of anganwadi and started throwing all poly bags and all in dustbins. Students
were conscious about keeping their sitting area neat and clean.
After that sweepers were very happy and were saying this is the nice impact on kids.
We shall continue to create awareness among students which will assure them that
they need to keep the class room and surrounding clean on daily basis along with
need of swachh bharat ! my task was over because this is the one of those things which children
under 6 can understand the most and if he or she follows or practice for rest of their lives. They
A person might be an expert in any field of knowledge or a master of many material skills and
accomplishments. But without inner cleanliness his brain is a desert waste. -Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
1. Whenever you are in public places like bus stop, bus, footpath of the road etc, you may
buy something to eat. After eating, try to find a dustbin. If there is no dustbin, keep that
in your bag. As a preparatory activity, you need to have a plastic cover in your bag as a
dustbin. When you find a dustbin, throw it. Friends accompanying you will surely notice
this and it will make an impact
2. Whenever you go for a walk or jogging in the park or ground, make it a habit to pick at
least 2–3 wrappers or bottles thrown on the area and put it in the dustbin. People who
come for jogging will surely notice this and will have lasting impact which might prompt
them to follow as mind will be fresh in the morning.
3. Clean your surroundings both in anganwadi and home. The word spreads that you are
very particular about cleanliness and your subordinates will remember cleanliness
whenever they see you and try to inculcate at least to please you.
This is what I tried to teach those kids and implemented these things as well . Will for
sure visit over there next year.
