Child Education (Tuting Poor Children After School)

This document summarizes a student's project working with a non-profit organization called Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram to provide tutoring to poor children in India. Over the course of a month, the student helped teach basic English and math skills to children after school. The project identified that many children lacked access to education due to financial constraints and family backgrounds. Through interactive lessons and building the children's confidence, the student was able to improve the students' English language and math abilities. The children were sad to see the project end and requested the student return to continue tutoring them.

To start with I would like to thank Mr. Vijendra

Kumar Singh, The Head Member of Bhartiya Jan
Sewa Ashram, Badlpaur, Jaunpur
For cooperating and helping me with my project
MGN-231

Before proceeding with my work I figured out

some of the NGO and contacted them about the
types of the work they were doing and found that
Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram was doing the work
that was 100% beneficiary for the children with
no cost.

Later working with them had really been a good

experience which gave me an exposure of the
outer world, the education facility, their
education quality and many more. It was a
surprise thing for me to see how actively children
helped and participated in the project
CHILD EDUCATION (TUTING AFTER SCHOOL)

PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

Before starting with Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram I

tried to figure out the problems in the local area
and identified the problems due to which children
were unable to get education or lack quality
education.
The NGO is located near a Village Area which
helps to interact to poor people easily and talk
about their problems.
Talking with them was not easy as some of them
were not comfortable when questions were asked
about their children, we came to them for 2-3
days first to get their confidence that we were
there to help them, at first they spoke very little,
but result was good as we came to know different
reasons.

Most obvious reasons were money and family

background as they have never gone to school.

MY SHORT INTERVIEW
Before starting my project first I talked with sir
about how he came across this NGO and why he
wanted to do this.
This short interview was very interactive because
after a very long time I came across a best all-
rounder.
Sir started by telling that when he was working as
a Field Officer, his work was to be done in rural
village surveying on different things like crop
producton, when he was entering the village he
saw some small boys of about 6-7 years, they
were selling cigarretes and other tobacco items,
sir came near a boy and asked him where are his
parents and take him to his mother to ask her why
was she making his son to sell such things instead
me sending him to school, surprisingly his mother
told that she believes that education can’t change
their way of life and finally his son will have to do
such things only for living.
Sir when tried to convince her mother about the
benefits of education and how it can change their
way of life then she didn’t reacted and said that
they don’t have enough money to provide their
son with quality education.

After listening to this sir decided to change their

fate and decided to teach 4-5 children Basic
English and the initiation was very fantastic by
calling them to play and after that slowly slowly
putting conditions like nails should be cut
properly, we will study for 1 hrs then we will play
for hours. Children got trapped and from 4-5
numbers started increasing, children usually come
to sir to play and study. And now the situation is
this with help from NGO has its roof and beneath
it children directly come from school to the NGO
just to study and play.
The NGO consists of 7-8 volunteer and those
volunteer also consists of the starting 4-5 students
from which sir had started.

STARTING MY PROJECT
DATE: - 11-06-19

I started my project my first interacting with them

and the volunteers introduced me to the class. I
faced the biggest problem that I was not
comfortable in local language [Bhojpuri], but I
tried my best to understand them as well as to
make them understand my words also.
The first task I gave to them was to write anything
they know in English, and came to know that they
know only basics of English, and some of them
even don’t know how to write their names in
English properly.
DATE: - 12-06-19 TO 28-06-19
After this I started with topic myself, and this
period of days I had given them around 9-10 lines
to learn and teach them their meanings.
The students were very good learner and they
grasped things very quickly.
Some of them lacked confidence to speak in front
of everyone, but as the time passed they were
good at that.

DATE: - 28-06-19 TO 13-06-19

Next task was to teach them how to stand and
deliver their sentences.
As some of them were shaking, some were just
laughing, some of them even cried not to come in
front of everyone.
After this I started to each them basic
mathematics like addition, subtraction etc.
They were good at maths as I didn’t have to put
too much efforts as I faced in English.
MY FINAL DAY
14-07-19
My final day was awesome, when the children
came to know that I am not going to teach them
any more they all rushed to sir and requested him
to stop me from leaving, After that I bought ice
creams for all and promised them to return as
soon as possible.
