STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Name: Tarun Kandpal MS- Mechanical Engineering

Since my childhood days, elements of nature viz. Sun, Air, Water have always fascinated
me. What intrigued me the most was their gigantic potential which runs the whole world.
Looking at an unending advancement all over the globe it triggers me with an idea that
these inexhaustible sources of energy can be used in every sphere of human life. Therefore
I wish to study in any related branch of Mechanical Engineering and bridge it with
sustainable ways of energy advancement. To corroborate my interest, I have worked in a
Japanese Automobile company for 1 year in Process Department as Graduate Engineer
Trainee. There, I did 2 Kaizen (a Japanese term to show continuous improvement). First
Kaizen was by obliterating excess usage of Plastic bags by an environmental friendly Jute
bags. Second one was by proposing a design of chimney to facilitate the passage for
poisonous gas generation during Soldering process.

After completing my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, I cleared an exam called GATE

(Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) to pursue my Masters from NIT Warangal,
Telangana (India) in Environmental Engineering. There I studied that how human intervention
has affected our climate to a great extent. My subjects of interest there were Environmental
Chemistry and Microbiology, Computational methods, Air Pollution and Remote sensing &
GIS application. During my course work I also learned 2 regional Languages like Telugu and
Marathi which helped me communicating with the local public. Moreover I have acumen
towards multilingualism as well which is helping me in learning different languages very fast.
Including German, I can speak 5 languages fluently. To keep myself in balance I follow
physical and spiritual routine on a daily basis which includes playing Badminton, Practicing
Yoga asana, Meditation, Reading mythological books. I also enjoy singing and playing
musical instruments like Guitar, Piano and flute.

I have also published 2 International Journal Papers during my Masters which explicitly shows
my Research inclination. But this didn’t satisfied me because I still had limited knowledge
about Mechanical Engineering. So in order to quell my thirst in Mechanical Engineering, I
jumped into teaching industry. Therefore, from past 5 years I have been working as
Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Automation Engineering. During this period, I
taught subjects like Basic and Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and
Mass Transfer, Strength of Materials, Automobile Engineering and Manufacturing
Process. This teaching exposure gave me a deep insight to ponder upon various issues
which can be addressed in Mechanical field to make it more conducive from
environmental point of view as well. In nutshell, I can say that Researches which fill
lacunae between Mechanical and Environmental Engineering arises my curiosity.

Besides my academics exposure, other opportunities came to me in the form of students

clubs and college run clubs where I had chances to enhance my interpersonal skills. With
the experiences gained as a volunteer in many clubs and also by organizing National level
seminars taught me many collaborative and management skills that I later used in my
professional career. Working in top roles gave me scope to interact with a number of
students and guide them in technical and behavioral skills.

As far as my selection of Australia for Masters is concerned, I would say Australian

Universities are one of the best in the entire world for mechanical Engineering and as a
country it is one of the peaceful place in the world. So the kind of exposure I will get is
certainly inexplicable. This is the main reason that propels me to do my masters one more
time. It will be a dream comes true if I get an opportunity to study in such a Holy place.
Furthermore, as the course includes students coming from different nationalities and also with
unique talent, it will surely give a platform to interact and develop multi-cultural and multi-
lingual relationships. It will also help to understand many different mindsets across the globe.
With the words from alumni of prestigious Australian Universities on social media and the
results of my thorough research, I can strongly say this course and University can show me a
clear way to my success. With the available resources, infrastructure and supportive faculty, I
can make my professional experiences added value to my Masters if I get a chance to be a
part of your university. I am confident that with my projects, my industry-oriented exposure,
along with the teaching skills, I can make the best use of the learning opportunity provided by
your Institution in a creative and motivating environment. Given a chance, I will be one of
best assets to your university.

Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to your positive
response.
Yours sincerely,
Tarun Kandpal
