Pipeline Stress Analysis

1. PT Indonesia Power is assessing a gas pipeline at their Tambak Lorok Block 3 power plant that was impacted during construction activities to determine if it can safely return to normal production levels. 2. The scope of work involves pipeline and civil engineering, including a pipe stress analysis to evaluate the pipeline's safety considering the impact and compare the results to the design conditions. 3. The pipe stress analysis will model the above-ground section impacted by construction and other pipeline sections for reference using the Caesar II software. It will analyze load combinations including hydrotest, operating and sustained loads to determine if the pipeline is suitable for service.

1. INTRODUCTION
In order to increase production capacity PT. Indonesia Power as one of the biggest company which engaged to power
generator field is developing new plant Block 3. During construction activity one of the gas pipeline which they owned
get impacted and they have to reduce the production. Therefore further analysis/investigation to impacted pipeline will
be required before running production in normal condition.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

 Pipeline Engineering
 Civil Engineering

3. PIPE STRESS ANALYSIS

3.1 Purpose
The purpose of Pipe stress analysis is to ensure that the pipeline remain in safe condition related to impact of construction
activity. Sensitivity analysis also will performed related to actual condition after impacted and the result will be compared
to design condition.

3.2 References
This calculation has been performed based on all data and requirements on referred documents as listed below:
3.2.1 Code and Standard
ASME B31.8 Gas transmission and Distribution System
API Spec. 5L Specification for Line Pipe
3.2.2 Projects Documents
IPSMG-PL-DWG-001 Keyplan Pipeline Route
IPSMG-PL-DWG-002-1~4 Alignment Sheet 16” Pipeline from PT. PDG to PLTU 3
3.3 Scope
The main concern of the pipeline stress analysis is above ground section which impacted from construction activity. The
other part of the pipeline which modelled it’s just for reference only beside to get condition analysis as real as posible.

3.5 METHODOLOGY
3.5.1 Software
Flexibility of piping system is analyzed by comprehensive method using computer software of Caesar II version 5.3. SI
Units to be used for analysis and documentation. Piping system coordinate in the analysis is as follows:
X : South
Y : Elevation
Z : West

3.5.2 Friction Effects

Friction effects shall be included in the thermal expansion and contraction analysis for all sizes lines and all sizes lines
connected to strain and load sensitive equipment.
Friction force shall be calculated based on the properties of the sliding surface and contact material. Table below shown
static friction coefficients shall be used.
