My Reflection STS Packaging
My Reflection STS Packaging
Upon doing this activity for about a week, I have come to a realization that these packaging
materials truly have a major impact and contribution in our daily errands and lifestyle. These
materials have various uses that can be very beneficial for us as they can provide convenience to
us and prevent our products from being damaged or broken. For example, paper, plastic, and
laminate packaging can be very helpful by making our lives easier when it comes to packing,
storing, and transporting food, drinks, and, other materials that we utilize and consume almost
every day. The same thing goes for metal, glass, and other packaging materials as they also help
secure products during shipping and protect them from damages. Moreover, these packaging tools
help prolong the shelf-life of food and drinks such as meat, fish, fruits, milk, and other products
that can spoil easily. They can also aid in the mass production of different tangible products as
shipping and distributing in different sectors worldwide has now become less of a burden through
these packaging materials. Furthermore, these materials have also become advantageous and
favorable in the market place as they can provide aesthetics for the product that can attract more
customers; making the product more profitable. Also, some materials, especially paper, can be
environment-friendly as they can be reused and recycled, and are biodegradable. Hence, the role
of these packaging materials in our society has become more widespread as we tend to utilize them
day by day for different purposes.
As there is a positive side, it cannot be denied that these materials also have disadvantages.
I realized that they can have a negative side effect if not disposed and managed properly. Plastics
and laminates, perhaps, can be toxic and harmful to our environment. They may cause pollution if
not thrown in the right way. In addition, metals such as steels are vulnerable to the effects of
corrosion; aluminum packaging, although resistant to corrosion, are also disadvantageous when it
comes to acidic food as they may end up tasting like aluminum itself. Glass packaging, on the
other hand, can also be inconvenient as it is much heavier compared to other packaging materials.
It is also fragile; thus, it needs to be handled with care and precaution because if a glass breaks, it
becomes much more dangerous than other materials. Paper packaging, despite of it being eco-
friendly, can also be less helpful when it comes to warm food and cold drinks as it turns soggy and
easily rips off.
