Introduction
The Manual Batcher has the following main functionalities:
Manage products
Manage batches
Chapter 2
General
The Manual Batcher software is developed to use in combination with a
Voortman Automatisering saw/drill. It can also be used as office application for
a punch/shear system. It is possible to import products using the DSTV-format.
An other option is to manually create the products. Products are made out of flats
and profiles.
The products can be nested into trade lengths. It is possible to determine the
needed material by using the nested profiles. The nested profiles can be send to
the machine using the BAR export.
Logon
When working on the machine computer the application will launch
automatically. When the application is launched, the logon screen (Picture 2 -1)
will be shown.
Leave the password field empty when logging on as one of the default users.
It’s not possible to change the user name or password or add users. This can only
be done by Voortman Automatisering engineers.
It is possible to pick a different language from the language choice list. This
setting will be stored for the next logon. The following languages are available:
Dutch
English
German
French
Screen lay-out
Picture 2 -2 shows the main screen of the Manual Batcher. The most important
parts are marked with a number. The numbers will be explained in the next
paragraph.

Help
The menu item File | Settings can be used to open the settings screen.
Setting of the Manual Batcher can be changed in this settings screen (Picture 2
-5). The following setting can be changed:
Measurement: sets the unit system of the Manual Batcher to millimetres
or inches. When the default option is selected the Manual Batcher will
use the Windows settings.
Display fractions: this option is only available when the unit system is
set to inches. Inches will be shown as fractions instead of decimal
values when this option is enabled.
Default hole diameter: this is the default diameter of a new hole
(Picture 2 -20)
Saw Blade Thickness: this sets the thickness of the saw blade. The
thickness of the saw blade is used when creating a new batch.
The settings can be saved by pressing the Apply button.
Press the OK button to save the settings and close the settings screen.
The functions to create and edit products are available through the product menu
(Picture 2 -6). It’s also possible to rotate a product.
Rotate Z Left, the product will be rotated 90 degrees counter clock wise
over the Z axis
Rotate Z Right, the product will be rotated 90 degrees clock wise over
the Z axis
Rotate XZ, the product will be rotated over the XZ axis
To enable or disable a profile kind, move the profile kinds to the correct side
(Picture 2 -8) and press “Apply”. Press “OK” save the changes and to close the
screen.
Select the menu item Material | Edit profiles… to open the edit profiles screen.
In this screen it is possible to add custom profiles to the database (Picture 2 -10).
Change the profile name to “RO100*”10. The other fields will become
editable now. Change the other fields so it defines a valid profile:
All values of the existing profile should be changed so they match the new
profile. This is necessary because these values will be compared to DSTV files,
which allows only a small margin.
It is possible to edit a custom profile by double clicking on it or by selecting it
and pressing the button.
The sorting and grouping functionality is also available in this screen (see page
24).
Press the “Edit product” icon, when the products tab is active, to change the
selected product. This is also possible by double clicking on the product in the
products table. The product properties screen will be shown. In this screen it’s
possible to edit the product.
Press the “copy product” icon to create a copy of the selected product. The
product properties screen will be shown with all the data of the original product
except it’s product name.
New product
The product properties screen, for creating new products, is shown in Picture 2
-13.
General
The product properties screen is shown in Picture 2 -13. The fields in this screen
will be explained by using an example. The example product is shown in Picture
2 -14.
First specify the project name, phase name, product name and length of the
product. The product name should be unique within the project and phase. The
paragraph “Working with tables” will explain how the project name and phase
name can be used to create a good overview when there are a lot of products in
the database. Use the values from Table 2 .1 for this example:
Field Value
Project name Demo
Phase name Tutorial
Product name Product1
Length 250.00
Table 2.1 Data example product
Press the select profile button in the profile part of the screen to select a
profile. Select the values which are shown in Picture 2 -15.
Angles
On the angles tab it is possible to change the flange and web angles of the
product. Copy the values from Picture 2 -17. This will result in two web angles.
Picture 2 -17 shows that there are two types of angles. Normal angles, which
cover the full width of the product. Partial angles, which don’t cover the
complete width of a product. When complete angles is chosen, it is only
necessary to input the degrees. These angles can also have a negative value.
Picture 2 -18 shows how web angles are defined. To define web angle begin
bottom enter Angle 1. In this example the angle will be 10 degrees. Angle 2
show the angle end top. In this example the angle will be 30 degrees.
Holes
When the angles are defined, it is time to add the holes. To be able to do this
activate the holes tab. The holes tab is shown in Picture 2 -20. Copy the values
into the table to get the same product as shown in Picture 2 -20.
The following functions are available when the holes tab is active:
Copy the selected holes and mirror these holes over the X-axis
Copy the selected holes and mirror these holes over the Y-axis
To apply a holes pattern press and the pattern name. The apply
holes pattern screen (Picture 2 -23) will be shown.
With this button it is possible to apply a holes circle. When pressing the
holes circle button a screen (see Picture 2 -25) will be shown .In this
screen it is possible to change the following settings:
Centre point of the circle pattern
Diameter of the holes
Angle under which the first hole is placed. (The X and Y will
automatically be calculated).
The X and Y position of the first hole
The view in which the holes will be placed
The type of the holes
The diameter of the holes
The amount of holes which will be placed into the circle
Choose the advanced option, to be able to define the X and Y position of the first
hole (the program will then automatically calculate the angle).
With this button it is possible to undo the last add or delete holes action.
This function can also be executed by pressing CTRL+Z.
Shortcuts
Holes sequence
Holes can also be repeated without use of the “Repeat Holes” screen. First select
one or more holes, then activate the X or Y column of the last selected hole (hold
the CTRL key down to keep the current selection).
Then enter the amount of holes which needs to be added, enter the “*” (times) ,
enter the distance between the holes and finally pressing the “enter” key. When
Hole type
As shown in Picture 2 -20 there are different type of holes in the example
product. Some of these hole types will be explained briefly. This will clarify how
the holes should be defined. There are four type of holes
Complete hole (also slot holes)
Debur hole (does not apply on a punch/shear system)
Thread hole (does not apply on a punch/shear system)
Mark
The holes in the example product are placed in the front view. Two hole (types)
from the example product will be further explained now.
An extra hole is needed to define the hole which is shown in Picture 2 -29. The
extra hole should contain the parameters of the complete hole.
Slot hole:
The definition of a slot hole is explained in Picture 2 -30. The picture shows
what the X and Y value of a slot hole are.
Picture 2 -31 is an example of a slot hole with a size of 100*40. The slot hole
has a diameter of 40, a width of 100, a height of 0 and an angle of 0 degrees.
Imprints
Imprints can be created in the imprints tab (see Picture 2 -32). The location of
an imprint is defined by its X en Y coordinate. The coordinate is the centre of the
first letter of the imprint. The text which should be placed on the product can be
entered in the text field. It is also possible to enter multiple imprints. The
example product contains the text “Example Product” on position X = 50 and Y
= 10.
The following functions are available when the imprints tab is active:
Advanced
Extra information about the product can be changed on the advanced tab (see
Picture 2 -33). This extra information is part of the DSTV format. It contains
order number, drawing number, text, pos. number and material. It is also
possible to mark if a product needs post processing and needs to be shot blasted.
The DSTV zero point is the bottom left corner of a product. By changing the
zero point settings (Picture 2 -33) it will be possible move the zero point
temporarily. This will make it easier to create a product when the drawings have
a different zero point. For example: when a hole is 50 millimetres from the left
side of the product with a length of 1000. The X position will be 50. When the
zero point of the X axis is changed to end, the X position will become 950. The
same applies to the Y(with web height) and Z axis (with flange height).
Importing/exporting products
The previous paragraph explained how to manually create a product. The
Manual Batcher has also the possibility to import products. These products must
be defined according to the DSTV standard. When these DSTV files are
available they can be imported by clicking Product | Import in the menu bar. A
dialog (see Picture 2 -35) will appear to select the DSTV files which should be
imported. Then press “Import” to import the DSTV files. This dialog can as well
To import more than one DSTV file, select multiple files (using the CTRL or
SHIFT key). It’s also possible to import an entire folder. This can be done by
selecting the folder and pressing “Import”.
Manual Batcher can export products as well. This can be done by selecting the
products and choosing Product | Export from the menu bar. The files will be
exported to the default export folder.
The folders where the DSTV files are imported from and exported to are defined
in the program settings. These settings can be found in the ini file. The import
and export have a certain folder structure. The name of the first folder within the
path is the project. The sub folders within the path represent the phase name.
This applies to the import and export. Picture 2 -36 shows an example structure.
This example has the following settings:
Export path: C:\DSTV
Project name: Proj
Phase name: Structure
When the DSTV files in Picture 2 -36 are imported the project name will be
“Proj” and the phase name will be “Structure”. The product names will be “2”,
“Test” and “Trace”.
Product viewer
Manual Batcher can show a preview of the product which is selected. This
preview is drawn in the so called product viewer. The product viewer is shown
in Picture 2 -37.
This paragraph will explain the functions of the product viewer. First the display
functions of the product viewer are explained. The buttons shown in Picture 2
-38 can be used to execute these functions.
Grouping
When grouped, rows with similar data will be placed together. The rows in
Picture 2 -40 are grouped on Project, Phase en Profile. All rows with the same
project are grouped. After this the rows are grouped per project. After this the
rows are grouped per profile.
Grouping can be applied by dragging a column header out of the row with
column headers into the grouping box. Grouping can be undone by dragging a
column header out of the grouping box into the row with column headers.
Expanding/collapsing

which is shown in Picture 2 -45.
When the “add one product to batch” icon is pressed, the selected
product will be added once to the batch. The row of the product will become
yellow to indicate that this product is part of the batch.
When the “Add all products to batch” icon is pressed, the total amount of
the selected product will be added to the batch. The row of the product will
become green to indicate that the total amount of this product is batched and the
product is part of this batch.
Products can be remove from the batch by pressing the “remove product from
Press the “move product up” icon to move a product to the front of the
batch.
Press the “move product down” icon to move a product to the end of the
batch.

which shows an overview of all holes in the selected products.
ProductBuffer DSTV
BAR + DSTV
In this buffer system products will be cut and transported with the traverse
transports into the products buffer. Products can be taken out of the product
buffer and be put onto the infeed of the drilling machine. The buffer reduces the
idle time of the saw and drill.
The product buffer in Picture 2 -57 shows 4 products in the product buffer. The
product on position 1 is the product which will be drilled first. The buffer also
indicates if the product should be rotated manually and if it needs to be shot
blasted.
With the “New…” button it is possible to add a product to the buffer. This
product should be a DSTV file which is exported with the Manual Batcher. The
DSTV file should also be available to the machine computer under the same
path. When the “New…” button is pressed, the “New product row” screen will
appear (Picture 2 -60). Select the DSTV file for the product which should be
added to the product buffer, choose the correct rotation. Define if the product
should be drilled and shot blasted.
The second function of the product buffer is to produce products which are
already partially produced. This system (see Picture 2 -61) does not have a
physical buffer.
