Local Science and Math Quiz

KWD conducted its 3rd annual local science and math quiz show on December 15, 2017. The event was participated in by 12 elementary schools and 16 high schools from Kabacan. It featured questions in 5 rounds about water-related topics. Almer Jeuz N. Alzate from Enhanced Childhood Learning Center won the elementary level while Kent John M. Manuel from Notre Dame of Kabacan won the junior high level. The winners received cash prizes and will represent KWD in upcoming regional and national quiz competitions. The quiz show aims to promote awareness of water resource protection.

KWD Conducts 3rd Local Science and Math Quiz Show

Last December 15, 2017, the Kabacan Water District (KWD) conducted the yearly Local
Water District Science and Math Quiz Show at the Café Martina, University of Southern
Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, Cotabato. Now on its third year, the said activity was participated
in by 12 Elementary Schools and 16 High Schools in the Municipality of Kabacan.

The Quiz Show started at exactly 1:00 in the afternoon beginning with the Elementary level
followed by the Junior High School level. It was played in 5 rounds – Easy, Average, Difficult,
Semi-final and Clincher rounds with 4 categories – Earth’s Water / Water Properties / science
of Water; History of Drinking Water; Laws and Jurisprudence of Water Districts in the
Philippines / General Information; and Computation. The game ended with the declaration of
winners and awarding of prizes. Almer Jeuz N. Alzate, Grade 6 pupil of the Enhanced
Childhood Learning Center, Inc. bested all other 11 contestants for the Elementary level while
Kent John M. Manuel, Grade 7 student from the Notre Dame of Kabacan, Inc. was hailed
champion for the Junior High School level.

The champions and runners-up of the Local Science & Math Quiz Show received Php cash
prizes, medals, and certificates. All other contestants were also given cash consolation prizes
and Certificates of Participation. Certificates of Commendation were given to all coaches and
Certificates of Participation were also awarded to all participating schools.

The winners will be KWD’s official contestants to the Regional Water Quiz Bowl sponsored by
the Southern & Central Mindanao Water and Information Council (SOCEMWIC) on January
12, 2018 in Tagum City and finally to the Philippine Association of Water District (PAWD)
National Science & Math Quiz in Iloilo City.

Also present during the event were the Board of Evaluators composed of Mr. Bryan Lloyd P.
Bretaña, an instructor of the University of Southern Mindanao; Dr. Lenie G. Forro, Science
Education Supervisor and Dr. Juvy B. Nitura, Math Education Supervisor of the Department of
Education (DepEd) – Cotabato Division.

The Quiz show has been approved to be a regular activity of the District as part of its
advocacy to reach out to the community and also to promote awareness and active
participation in the preservation and protection of our natural resources, specifically water.
