Q
A. PRODUCT DESIGN AND DESCRIPTION

Figure 1.1 The Product of Plaque

Figure 1.2 Engineering Drawing of Plaque

This plaque is made by wood and acrylic, the wood comes from scrap wood from the
mebel industry, acrylic come from supplier. Dimension of the product is 15cm width, 3cm
length, and 20cm tall. For the thread on acrylic, we use laser to make them because of the
good precision and short time need.

B. BOM ( Bill Of Material ) TREE

Figure 1.3 BOM Tree of Plaque

BOM (Bill of Material) Tree is a tree diagram that shows list of parts, items,
assemblies and other materials required to create a product. The BOM of a product is very
important in carrying out the manufacturing process for laying out all the information needed
to assemble the parts. Besides describing what is manufactured and the raw materials that are
needed to make a product, the BOM tree also contains the equipment and tools needed to
build those parts. From the figure above, it can be seen that the method of representing a
BOM tree is to draw a multi-level bill of material for the total material required shown. This
method is used for its ability to display a greater detail of the product.
Based on the figure above, the parts of plaque are divided into two. They are the top
side and the bottom side of the plaque. The top part, which contained the information of the
plaque, is made of an acrylic plate/sheet. The bottom side, which holds the acrylic part, is
made out of a wooden block. Both of the parts mentioned only needed a piece of each
material and is manufactured separately before assembled using a suitable type of adhesive.

C. Operation Process Chart (OPC)

Figure 1.4 OPC of Plaque

Based on the operation process chart above, the process used in this plaque
manufacture is started by preparing the materials. The materials used in the manufacture of
the chosen design of plaque are wooden block and acrylic plate. The operation process, done
simultaneously, is separated to working on the wooden part and the acrylic part. The first
operation process focused on the wooden part is cutting the wooden block using the table saw
into the desired shape. The next step is sanding the part with a sander machine. Further
inspection is then applied to ensure the size and shape of the part and its surface
characteristics. After doing the inspection, the wooden part is varnished using wood varnish
and then allowed to dry.

Q5 | 3 | Manufacturing Process
On the other hand, the first step for the acrylic plate begin with cutting the plate using a
plasma cutter to the shape that has been programmed earlier into the plasma cutter software.
After cutting, an inspection towards the surface finish is held. The next step is printing the
design on the acrylic using digital acrylic printing machine. After manufacturing both the
wooden and the acrylic part, the next step is the assembly. The printed acrylic is attached to
the wooden part using epoxy adhesive glue. After the assembly process, the plaque is let to be
dried and then stored in a cabinet.
