Overview _______________________________________________
Quintum’s VoIP gateways allow analog phones, fax machines and/or PSTN trunks to be used
with TeleVantage over the SIP VoIP protocol. TeleVantage supports the following Quintum
VoIP gateways:
Depending on the model, Quintum gateways provide the following ports:

Model FXS FXO T1/E1 BRI

Tenor® AS/AF Series

Tenor AX Series
Tenor BX Series
Tenor DX

Q FXS ports are used to connect analog phones, fax machines or other analog station
devices. Once TeleVantage and the Quintum gateway are properly configured, analog
devices connected to Quintum FXS ports behave just like TeleVantage SIP external
stations.
Q FXO ports are used to connect analog trunks. Once TeleVantage and the Quintum
gateway are properly configured, analog trunks connected to the Quintum FXO ports
appear as TeleVantage SIP servers through which users can place and receive PSTN
calls.

1
Q T1, E1, or BRI ports are used to connect digital PSTN trunks and devices. Like FXO
ports, once TeleVantage and the Quintum gateway are properly configured, T1, E1 and
BRI ports appear as TeleVantage SIP servers.

All Quintum gateways have a least one type of port. FXS and FXO ports are optional, depending
on the specific AS/AF/AX gateway model. For example, a Tenor AS/AF/AX gateway may have
only FXS ports, only FXO ports, or both FXS and FXO ports. For information about the specific
resources provided by each Quintum gateway, see:
http://www.quintum.com/enterprise/en_products.html.

Requirements
Important: The following are required to use Quintum gateways with TeleVantage.

Q Install the Quintum gateway and connect it to your network and power according to the
instructions in the Product Guide included with the gateway.
Q On the Quintum gateway, connect analog phones to FXS ports, analog trunks to FXO
ports, and T1/E1, and BRI lines to their respective ports.
Q Identify a Windows PC on the same network as the gateway where you can perform the
configuration steps described in this guide.
Q Set your firewall to accept local traffic by making the local subnet a trusted zone to
ensure that Quintum gateways on the network will be detected by the Tenor
Configuration Manager. If your Quintum gateway is across a NAT or firewall from the
TeleVantage Server, see “Supporting SIP calls over NATs/firewalls” in Chapter 14 of
Administering TeleVantage.
Q Ensure that the following software requirements are met:

Q TeleVantage 7.0 or higher.

Q Quintum firmware version P104-12-00 (preloaded on Quintum gateways for use

with TeleVantage 7.0 or higher.)
Q Configure your TeleVantage system as described in “Configuring your TeleVantage
system for Quintum gateways” on page 1-3.

For more information

Q For more about using VoIP gateways with TeleVantage, see Chapter 6 in Installing
TeleVantage.
Q For more about using SIP with TeleVantage, see Chapter 14 in Administering
TeleVantage. Be sure to review the following important topics to see if they apply to you:

TeleVantage.
On the Phone \ External Station tab of the User dialog box, do the following:
Q Select SIP Phone from the Destination drop-down list.

Q For Call using, select the SIP Address dialing service from the drop-down list.

Q For the phone’s SIP address, select Registered to SIP span, and then select the IP
address or fully-qualified domain name of the SIP span from the drop-down list. For
Userinfo, enter the user’s TeleVantage extension.
Note: Make a note of the value you enter for Userinfo, as well as the user’s
Password—available on the User tab—because you will need this information
when you configure the Quintum gateway (in step 19 on page 1-20.)

Configuring TeleVantage for Quintum FXO/T1/E1/BRI ports

Perform the following tasks if you are using a Quintum Tenor gateway that provides FXO, T1,
E1, or BRI ports.
1. Install the Intel telephony components and software required to support SIP telephony.

3
3. Create a TeleVantage SIP server for each Quintum gateway. For details, see “Using
SIP servers” in Chapter 14 in Administering TeleVantage.
Note the following in the SIP Server dialog box:
Q On the SIP Server tab, you can specify the SIP server location in two ways:

Q If the Quintum gateway has a dynamic IP address, select Registered to SIP

span, and then select the IP address of the SIP span from the drop-down list.
Note: If you choose this option, make a note of the value you enter for Userinfo
(the information that the Quintum gateway uses to register with the
TeleVantage Server), because you will need it when you configure the Quintum
gateway (in step 18 on page 1-19.)
Q If the Quintum gateway has a static IP address or you identify it by a
fully-qualified domain name, Select Server, and then enter the IP address or
fully-qualified domain name.
Q On the Inbound tab, select Identify inbound calls from SIP server using. For
additional security, select SIP server authentication credentials, and then enter a
Username and Password for the Quintum gateway. Note that if you selected
Registered to SIP span on the SIP Server tab, Username should match what you
entered there for Userinfo.
Note: Make a note of the values you enter for Username and Password, because
you will need this information when you configure the Quintum gateway (in step
18 on page 1-19.)
Q Also on the Inbound tab, select Handle calls from this server as Telephone calls.

4. Add and configure a SIP-to-Phone Number dialing service, so users can place calls
over the SIP server representing the Quintum gateway's trunks. See “Adding a dialing
service” in Chapter 9 in Administering TeleVantage.
Q On the General tab of the SIP-to-Phone Number Dialing Service dialog box, for SIP
PSTN Gateway, select the name of the SIP server you created for the Quintum
gateway from the drop-down list.

connected to FXS ports on the gateway. (Note that no additional configuration is
necessary to support analog fax machines.)
Q Make inbound and outbound calls using lines connected to FXO ports on the Quintum
gateway.
Q Make inbound and outbound calls using T1, E1, or BRI lines connected to the Quintum

Using the Tenor Configuration Manager ______________________

Normally, you can only use the Wizard to configure a Quintum gateway for the first time. To
make any subsequent changes to the gateway’s settings—and to access some advanced or rarely
used settings—you must use the Tenor Configuration Manager.
Note: If you want to reconfigure the gateway again using the Wizard, edit the gateway in the
Tenor Configuration Manager, and then choose Action > Set Factory to restore all factory default
settings for the gateway. Be aware that this will reset all changes that you made to the default
gateway settings, except for the gateway’s IP address.

To start the Tenor Configuration Manager, click Start > Programs > Quintum > Tenor
Configuration Manager > Tenor Config Manager (if you installed the Configuration Manager
in the default location.)
For more about the Configuration Manager, see the Tenor Configuration Manager Users Guide,
available for download at http://www.quintum.com/support/mgmt/index.shtml.
