Responsible Parenthood Name of Student: Anna Dominique Guison Year and Section: BSN - 2C 1

The document is a student assignment on responsible parenthood submitted to Cebu Doctor's University College of Nursing. It addresses two questions: 1) It outlines the rights and obligations of husbands and wives according to the Family Code of the Philippines, including living together, mutual love/respect, parental authority, family support, and household management. 2) It explains that the Reproductive Health Law promotes responsible parenthood by defining it as complete physical/mental well-being in reproductive matters, including safe/consensual sex and the freedom to decide family planning consistently with religious beliefs. Responsible parenthood also means the ability of parents to meet family/child needs and aspirations.

Responsible Parenthood

Name of Student: Anna Dominique Guison Date Submitted: July 10, 2019
Year and Section: BSN - 2C Grade:

1. In Family Code of the Philippines, what are the rights and obligations between
husband and wife? Outline the general provision of the code in terms of parental
authority.

The husband and wife are obliged to live together, observe mutual love, respect and
fidelity, and render mutual help and support.

The husband and wife shall fix the family domicile. In case of disagreement, the court
shall decide.

The court may exempt one spouse from living with the other if the latter should live
abroad or there are other valid and compelling reasons for the exemption. However,
such exemption shall not apply if the same is not compatible with the solidarity of the
family.

The spouses are jointly responsible for the support of the family. The expenses for
such support and other conjugal obligations shall be paid from the community property
and, in the absence thereof, from the income or fruits of their separate properties. In
case of insufficiency or absence of said income or fruits, such obligations shall be
satisfied from the separate properties.

The management of the household shall be the right and the duty of both spouses.
The expenses for such management shall be paid in accordance with the provisions
of Article 70.

When one of the spouses neglects his or her duties to the conjugal union or commits
acts which tend to bring danger, dishonor or injury to the other or to the family, the
aggrieved party may apply to the court for relief.
Either spouse may exercise any legitimate profession, occupation, business or activity
without the consent of the other. The latter may object only on valid, serious, and moral
grounds.
In case of disagreement, the court shall decide whether or not:
1. The objection is proper; and
2. Benefit has occurred to the family prior to the objection or thereafter. If the
benefit accrued prior to the objection, the resulting obligation shall be enforced
against the separate property of the spouse who has not obtained consent.

The foregoing provisions shall not prejudice the rights of creditors who acted in good
faith.

2. In what way do you think the Reproductive Health Law promotes Responsible
Parenthood?

Reproductive Health promotes Responsible Parenthood because it refers to the state

of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of
disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its
functions and processes. This implies that people are able to have a responsible, safe,
consensual and satisfying sex life, that they have the capability to reproduce and the
freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so. This further implies that women
and men attain equal relationships in matters related to sexual relations and
reproduction.

Responsible parenthood also refers to the will and ability of a parent to respond to the
needs and aspirations of the family and children. It is likewise a shared responsibility
between parents to determine and achieve the desired number of children, spacing
and timing of their children according to their own family life aspirations, taking into
account psychological preparedness, health status, sociocultural and economic
concerns consistent with their religious convictions.
