- drawings/drafting

A) - What is the product? (product’s function and features)

– Why did you choose that product? ( identify problem and recognize the need)

Define the problem though bridging the gap in the current to the past, previous designs.
(Clear statement to the need of the improvisation of the product) for both innovated and
existing products.

– What is the market review or surveys? (If any)

Identify the problem through recognizing customer needs and gather info through surveys,
market demands, needs of a specific user group, internet, etc..)

B)

– Benchmark your proposed product against existing designs (for new

innovations) or reverse engineer the benchmark for those who choose existing
products. (Advantages and disadvantages of your product is to be stated here )

– Generate the concept through brainstorming, morphological chart or

functional decomposition.

– Evaluate the concept through either one of these methods, Pugh’s Concept or
Weighted Decision Matrix.

C) Product modifications ( factors to be discussed here)

a. What is being modified, innovated or added?

b. Why it is being modified, innovated or added?

c. Benefits gain from those modifications, innovation or addition.

D) State the manufacturing processes used to manufacture the main parts in your
product.

E) Discussions & Conclusion

F) References

G) Appendix ( Geometrical Modelling and basic analysis where applicable)

– Complete CAD drawings (E.g. each part projection view drawings, assembled
drawing, BOM exploded view drawing etc.)

* Please elaborate clearly in every criteria required above. The representation of the
product must be presented through the design stages as discussed in the class.
