CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

As a part of graduation requirements, the Final Semester Students which is 4 year students
of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) are compulsory to undergo an industrial training
program for duration of one semester within 6 months at selected company. The training
duration starts from 12th September 2018 until 22th February 2019. The aim of the
industrial training is to prepare students for future working environment. This will expose
the real situation of working environment related with their course such as Industrial
Technology Management. Moreover, students also can help to promote UMP at company
they joined.

The purpose of industrial training is to expose students to pre-professional work

experience with specific assignments and responsibilities in related industry. Through this
exposure, students will be able to apply the theories and skills learned at university to solve
real problem in organization in order to improve their marketability after graduation.
Industrial training is part of the learning process and therefore, the knowledge, experience
and skills gained needs to be documented properly in the form of a report. Industrial training
or Internships provide real world experience to those who are looking to explore or gain the
relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field.

Internships are relatively short term in nature with the primary focus on getting some on
the job training and taking what’s learned in the classroom and applying it to the real world.
Interns generally have a supervisor who assigns specific tasks and evaluates the interns
overall work. Many college/university students do internships to gain relevant experience in
a particular career field as well as to get exposure to determine if they have a genuine
interest in the field. Internships are an excellent way to begin building those important
connections that are invaluable in developing and maintaining a strong professional network
for the future.
