That glorious Thursday, my friend and I were walking home from school. As I reached home, we
noticed a small package on the doorsteps of my dwelling.

Plot: characters, description, dialogue, feelings

Carefully, we approached the neatly wrapped package. We looked at it closely. It was a rectangular
shaped box. It was wrapped in gold and green gift paper. It had a small, round hole on the side. As we
observed more carefully, we heard a whining sound coming from inside the box. Something was
scratching the inside of the box.

As curious as a detective, we began to unwrap the package. As soon as we opened the box, a little,
cute, fluffy puppy popped out. Its eyes were as blue as the sky and its fur was as white as snow. There
was a card that said congratulation. It was a gift from my aunt. She heard I placed first in a ‘Spelling
Competition’. I was elated.

Conclusion:

Quickly, I held it in my arms and cuddled it. I was as happy as a lark. We carried it inside. I named him
Cosy.

lighting up the sky and thunder roared like angry lions. The school bell rang but we did not hear it and
we continued to play.

Soon after, the wind began to blow strong and it made the sound like an angry witch. We were
enjoying ourselves tremendously. After a while, I realized that we were outside for a long while.
When I checked the time, I realised that the school bell had rung. Suddenly, I began to sneeze and I
felt cold. I began to shiver.

Conclusion:

We were all soaked to the skin. We knew we were going to get into serious problem with the

Dear Sara,

What have you been up to lately? Well, my friend, I have made a new friend and I want to tell you all
about her. She is in the same class as I am. She is ten years old. She is slim, tall and pretty. She is a
very intelligent person. She reads a lot of books, she can play the guitar well and she loves sports just
like me.

On Saturdays, we play tennis together. That is usually fun. Sometimes she comes to visit me at my
home and we watch movies together, and play video games. When we are watching movies and
playing together, my mother would make some delicious snacks for us. Sometimes I visit her, and we
have a wonderful time at her home. She also has a pet dog, his name is Jerry. He is very playful. We
have a great time playing with him. She allows me to bathe him. Isn’t that cool? I am now thinking
about getting a pet for myself. Isn’t that great! Well, bye for now. I hope to hear from you soon.

Dear Sophia,
What’s up girl? Are you still trying out for the cheer leading squad? As you know, Divali is fast
approaching, and I would like to invite you to come to my dwelling, to celebrate this auspicious
occasion with me.
Sophia, if you decide to spend this special day with me, I can assure you, you would have a fantastic
time. My dear mother will be preparing an array of mouth-watering dishes.
Sophia, in the evening, we will be having ‘Lakshmi Pooja’. So, if you accept my invitation, you could

would become wealthy and prosperous.
After the devotion, we will sing a few of your favourite ‘bhajans’. Then, we will light hundreds of little
earthen pots called ‘deyas’. The thousands of brilliant lights will transform the village into a fairyland
of gems and jewels.
My friend, I hope I have convinced you to come and spend this special day with me. We will also be

Dear Nicholas,
What have you been up to lately? How is school? Nicholas, last week we celebrated Carnival in my
country, and I took part. It was fantastic. I want to invite you to join me for Carnival next year. I will
send you some of the lovely photos I took out, but first, let me tell you about those two wonderful
days!

Carnival takes place on the streets every year between the months of February and March. There are
many activities leading up to this ‘big day’, such as: Kiddies Carnival, Soca Monarch, and Di Marche
Gras show which you will enjoy.

My uncle and I played in a band called ‘Tribe’. We went to Couva around 1:00 p.m. on Carnival
Tuesday. When we arrived, there were great excitement and celebration. The streets were crowded
with cheerful spectators dancing to the loud soca music. Jubilation filled the air. I felt thrilled and
excited to be part of a Carnival Band. We got to parade on the stage!

There were many beautiful and colourful costumes worn by the King and Queen of the bands. They
were absolutely gorgeous! The masqueraders paraded in glittering costumes and jumped and danced
to the fantastic music. It was the best time I ever had in my life!
Nicholas, I would be very happy if you would join me next year and be part of this wonderful
celebration. I expect you to say, ‘Yes!’ Write soon.

Bryan

Dear Ashti,
What’s up girl? I imagine you are in the best of health. Are you still taking swimming lessons? Did
you enjoy your Christmas vacation? I hope you did because I had a fantastic time, and I want to
tell you all about my experiences.

During the first week, I visited all the different malls in Trinidad, shopping for gifts for all my dear
friends and relatives. The malls were beautifully adorned with huge christmas trees and lovely
decorations. Christmas carols and parang music could be heard throughout the mall.

My mother and I cleaned our entire house and decorated it. We assembled our Christmas tree and
adorned it with wonderful ornaments and lights. We placed all the lovely wrapped presents under
the tree.
The night before Christmas, I put a glass of milk and a plate of cookies for Santa. Finally, when the
‘big day’ arrived, I woke up excitedly. I quickly bolted out of my bed and dashed under the
Christmas tree.

Ashti, most of the gifts were for me. Excitedly, I ripped open the gifts. When I glimpsed what I
received, I became as happy as a lark. Ashti, my friend, I had a ‘G-R-E-A-T’ vacation and I hope you
enjoyed yours, too. Bye for now. Tell your family I said, “Hi”

Dear Amanda,

Hi! Recently, my classmates and I visited the Caroni Bird Sanctuary and I had a fantastic time. It is
located in Central Trinidad. I can’t wait to tell you about my trip.

That lovely morning, as my classmates and I arrived at the Caroni Swamp, everyone was excited.
We quickly boarded the boat and happily strapped on our life vest. When everyone was seated,
the tour began. Along the journey, the boatman would stop now and again and point out some
wild life such as snakes, fish and different types of plants. The mangrove trees divided the swamp
into little parts and under the water was marine life. Isn’t that great!

The best part were the birds, and you know how I adore them. The boat sailed gently down the
river until, we came to the centre of the nesting area, where the boatman anchored the boat. He
cautioned us to be very quiet as the birds are easily disturbed. The trees looked like Christmas
trees with decorations when the birds perched on them. It was an awesome sight.

Well, my friend, the trip was educational and fun. I hope that the next time we are going you
would be able to accompany us. Bye for now.

Charlotte

Dear Brian,
Have you gone to the beach lately? Well, my friend, I recently went to the beach and I had a
wonderful time, and I want to tell you all about my experience.

It was a marvellous, Sunday morning when I arrived at the beach. The clear, blue waters of Maracas
Bay sparkled as the sunlight hit it. My first step on the sand, and my feet sank into it. The seashore
was carpeted with people wearing colourful bathing suits, walking along the shore, and admiring the
scenery.

Soon after, we dashed into the water. The warmth of the water felt like a cosy blanket wrapped
around me. We swam until we were exhausted. Next, we went to play a game of cricket.

After, we had lunch. We bought delicious bake and shark. Brian, tasting that bake and shark was like
tasting it for the first time. It was scrumptious. After a while, the clear, blue water became perfect for
snorkelling. So, we decided to snorkel.

Brian, my friend, I was having a lot of fun but I had to leave. As we left, the, sun was setting in the
horizon and it was a picturesque sight to admire. Brian, if you had accompanied us, I am sure, you
would have had a fantastic time. I hope the next time we are going, you would accompany us. Bye for
now. I hope to hear from you soon.

Dear Tiffany,

I hope you are fine. Are you still learning to play the piano? Well, my friend, I want to thank you
profusely for lending me that interesting book ‘Harry Potter’. This book has inspired me to read. Now,
I am going to the library very often and borrowing books.

The book was very enjoyable and interesting and I just wanted to keep on reading. I could remember
one night, there was a power shortage, and I was so engrossed in the story, I held a torch light in my
hand, and continued reading. Every chapter ended in suspense, so I had to continue reading to know
what will happen next.

‘Harry Potter’ is the best book I have ever read in my life. The scary part was always breath-taking and
it just motivitated me to read. I always wanted a book like that.

Once again, I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart, for lending me such a
wonderful book. I will return your book soon and would like to borrow another. Bye for now. I hope
to see you soon.

Dear Mr. Balram,

I want to sincerely apologise for the damage done, to your lovely flower garden, by my mischievous
dog, Jeff. I would like to explain how it happened.

Since it was a glorious day, I decided to take my dog, Jeff, for a walk. My cell phone rang and I
answered it. I left Jeff unattended and that is when he spotted a cat in your garden and decided to
chase it. While he was chasing the cat, your beautiful flowers were ruined. So, you see, he didn’t
damage your garden intentionally.

I hope you would forgive him. I promise to help you replant all the uprooted plants and repair
anything else that needs fixing. I hope this incident would not interfere with our friendship. Once
again, I am terribly sorry for what had happened.

Your neighbour,
Solomon
