“What to do?

First thing that comes in my mind when I hear the word “Philosophy” was it’s about our
knowledge or lessons in life, things that will guide us when we make a decision. When a person
believed in his/her own philosophy in life he/she will based in that belief. It also shows how we
treat other people, how we stand and face our everyday challenge in life. Philosophy can help us
realize things we seem not to understand. Philosophy can ultimately change the way a person
lives and unlock some deep questions about the meaning of their life. Questions you ask yourself
suchlike why are we existing in the world? Why are we doing the things we are doing? Or where
my life is headed to? I guess understanding philosophy is the key in motivating us individuals to
explore life’s complication.
My professor asked me “What is your philosophy in life?”. I didn’t answer it right away but
when I get the chance and thought of something I guess my philosophy in life is “You have to
assemble your life yourself --- action by action.” – Marcus Aurelius. We people are going
through a lot even teenagers. We suffer stress, anxiety, frustration and depression but the only
thing that can help us get through with it is ourselves. Knowledge is never gained by
exaggeration. Philosophy is the pursuit of wisdom, reflection, commitment and our ambitions.
We are making our own future based on our performances, based on our knowledge. In example
if a person tries to bring us down we can’t just let them, we can’t just give up without doing what
we have to do. Life is beautiful and every moment is a celebration of our existence in the world,
but we should always be ready to face inevitable adversity and challenges. A person who has not
encountered difficulties in life can never achieve success. Hindrances test the perseverance,
patience and true character of a human being. Adversity and hardship make a person strong and
ready to face the challenges of life with equanimity. There is no doubt that there can be no pain
without pain.
To the title “What to do?” I relate it with the 3 world views which is Greece “Where am I?”,
China “What am I?”, and India “Who am I?” so for a unique one I thought of “What to do?”
because that’s the question always comes up in my mind when I’m drowning of questions. Our
existence in this world is beautiful but we have to admit the fact that it’s not always easy, we
have worries about the things that might happen, and the challenge lies in facing them with
courage. It makes the pain bearable, during tough times we only have hope. We have to cherish
every moment, even our dark moments, our sadness. In this topic I’ve come to my realizations
that no matter how hard the situation is, I need to try everything that I can and not give up easily
until I became satisfied with what I ought to do. I need to be positive. If I lose hope during
difficult times, I wouldn’t achieve success and would be replaced by others. So for me it’s better
an “oops” than a “What if?” at least I tried. I know everything has it’s reason and it’s worth it.

“Dreams on dreams”
The movie “Inception” was based on the basic inspiration that a single idea in an individual’s
mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous weapon. The movie is all about
process, about fighting our own way through developing sheets of reality and dream, reality
within dreams, dreams without reality. We can never be quite sure what the relationship between
dream time and real time is. It explains that you can never remember the beginning of a dream,
and that dreams that seem to cover hours may only last a short time.
With my own understanding about the movie it would have to be based on empiricism. Cobb
can experience the things that I don’t believe yet he takes them to be true. In example, if the
movie was all just all about Cobb’s dream, then Mal’s suicide was just a projection of his
imagination. As he dreams deeper he believes it that it is true where in fact Cobb’s knowledge is
based on experience because there is really no reason to rely on when your dreaming within a
dream within a dream. Like Cobb said, once you make it down to limbo it is hard to justify what
reality is. He’s only grip on reality is his totem. He only experience to rely on. His experiences in
his dreams would make him thought that it was in reality. In the end when Cobb see’s his
children’s faces he walks away from his totem, that moment of being with his children’s is all
needs to sense reality. He had experiences within a dream to formulate what reality is. He
would’ve listened to his wife and figured out that he is still dreaming at that time. Like in
coherent theory it states that something is true if it is consistent with other things that are held to
be true, but the problem in this situation is that there is no definition of what logical thinking is.
Cobb believed that the totem actually did tell him if he was or wasn’t dreaming but he believed
in this totem because he needed to. His mind was creating scenario’s to help him what he satisfy
in reality. Cobb’s mind created what he wanted to believe was only reality. Well I guess if you
have no grip on what’s real, creating the closest thing to it would be your best shot at happiness.
The movie is all about dreaming onto one’s life. Well to be honest, at first I can’t understand
the story and it rumbles in my head why and what’s happening, what’s the plot of the story but
when the intense scenes happen little by little I can interpret what the story was trying to tell the
watchers. So I thought that this was the best quotation I can show to explain the things I realize
while viewing the movie. “There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some
who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other”. – Douglas Everett. Some
of us live inside our heads. We live in the creation our mind is creating, but sooner or later the
hype will go away and we will be back with our problems again. The story made me perceived
that we should face reality. Reality is something that everybody has to face and deal with. Facing
reality can sometimes have a significant effect on themselves but we need to understand that
avoidance is never a solution to a problem, it can make the problem worse, it can lead to other
problems, and it may show the result that the problem is taking over your life. We shouldn’t
avoid the difficulties that’s happening to us. I did realize that even if it’s complicated we should
accept the reality. If a problem is taking on you take it as a challenge and face it with fear
because there’s always a solution to every problem. We just have to be strong and be positive
about it because we can’t escape from reality.
