Tutorial: C I V I L

This tutorial provides instructions for performing a transverse analysis of a single cell prestressed concrete bridge section. The bridge is 33.9 meters long with various tapered box girder sections. The analysis shows creating a finite element model to account for torsional behavior. Design moments and shear are increased by 20% and transverse reinforcement by 5% for simplicity since a rigorous analysis is not performed. The model is created and materials including concrete and steel properties are defined.

Transverse analysis of single cell PSC Section

Civil


This example shows complete analysis of a single cell PSC Section bridge of 33.9m span. The
structure consists of various single cell PSC sections out of which some are tapered. The design
shall be confirm to provisions of IRC:18-2000. The deck shall be cast on staging by in-situ
construction.

Detailed transverse analysis for box girder bridge is difficult to perform. Exact finite element
model will have to be generated to see the behaviour. In absence of rigorous analysis for the
torsional moments and for forces due to restrictions of warping torsion at ends, design moments
and shear in longitudinal direction are increased by 20% and transverse reinforcement steel by 5
% for simplicity and quick results.
