SAUVEN 6000 Plus IN DETAIL

Model types

The Sauven 6000 has 2 different models.

Sauven 6000 Plus Standard Sauven 6000 Plus Remote

The only difference between the 2 models is the location of the print head. The
Sauven 6000 Plus Standard has the print head incorporated in the control unit and
the Codajet 6000 plus Remote has a remote print head connected to the control unit
with a flexible conduit.

The Sauven 6000 plus operates with 2 sets of inks: oil based and Solvent based

Oil based inks are used for absorbent surfaces such as cardboard and solvent
based inks are used for non-absorbent surfaces such as plastic.

In theory both models can be used with both sets of inks but in practice we see the
following pattern:

Sauven 6000 Plus Standard is used with Oil based inks for box coding.

Sauven 6000 Plus Remote is used with Solvent based inks for product coding.

SAUVEN MARKING LTD P4

BOX CODING
The most typical application is the coding of
boxes.

For the box coding market the Codajet 6000

offers a hi-resolution print quality at 128 dpi rather
than a DOD quality.

Most of our customers for box coding are large

companies where product image is very
important and therefore also the presentation of
the packaging.

In this market we use for 95% a Sauven 6000 plus Standard model with oil
based ink. Sometimes a Codajet 6000 Remote model with oil based ink is used, for
example to print on the top of a box or to when the print head has to be installed in a
confined space.

PRODUCT CODING

Typical applications are the coding of

individual packaging like bottles, small
boxes, drums, cans, jars, packs, bags,
foil, etc

Most of our customers for product coding

are typically smaller companies looking
for an alternative to the CIJ (Continuous
Ink Jet). Price, simplicity and low
maintenance are the motivation factors.
Often the production lines operate
continuously over 1 or more shifts per day.

In this market we always use the Sauven 6000 Plus Remote with solvent based
ink..

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO KNOW BEFORE YOU START SELLING?

WHERE TO PROMOTE THE SAUVEN 6000 Plus AND WHEN NOT

TO?
If it comes to promoting and selling the Sauven 6000 plus, we basically work on
2 different segments of market. The main difference is made by the application
that will determine the ink that will also determine the model type:

Box coding: Sauven 6000 Plus Standard with oil based ink
In this market we mostly sell on quality and not on price. The customer wants a
nice hi-resolution print quality that fits with his product image rather than a DOD
quality.
From our experience we find that most of ours are oil based users are big
companies where image is important: some example: British Sugar, Mars (Master
Foods), Coca Cola, Cadbury, Kraft Jacobs Suchard, Gerber Foods, Unilever,
The market of box coding uses for 95% a Codajet 6000 Standard model and
occasionally also a Codajet 6000 Remote model.

Focus on: - High quality cardboard printing

- Dot matrix printer replacement

Product coding: Sauven 6000 Plus Remote with solvent

based ink
In the market of product coding we compete very comfortably on price with the
“slower” CIJ applications.
Between similar coders to ours we compete mostly on simplicity. Our Machine
has a good range of functions and is very simple (simple operation, no maintenance,
1 PCB, no connection cables, easy ink supply, no thinners)
The users of the solvent based Sauven for product coding, are typically smaller
companies looking for a cheaper alternative to the CIJ. Our strongest markets for
product coding are in China, USA, Russia, Mexico, Nigeria, Italy, Greece, Croatia,
Iran, Saudi Arabia, UK, … many of them very price sensitive regions.

Focus on: - CIJ market with line speeds <30m/min

- All small character printing

HOW SAUVEN 6000 Plus IS DIFFERENT FROM THE
COMPETITION?
We have to consider 3 situations:

SAUVEN 6000 versus similar printers, for both box and product coding:
SAUVEN 6000 versus DOD printers, for box coding:
SAUVEN 6000 versus CIJ printers, for product coding:

 SAUVEN VERSUS SIMILAR PRINTERS

Whichever printer you compare the Sauven 6000 with,

(Especially other printers using Xaar technology)

The main advantage of the Sauven 6000 Plus are always:

Simplicity
&
Print Head Protection

No matter whom the competition is…

Simplicity

1 UNIT: MONOBLOC
All-in-one, The Sauven 6000 plus is one complete unit ready for operation
No separate ink supply
No separate control unit
No communication cables
No external ink tubing
No external pneumatic tubing

BUILD WITH FEW COMPONENTS

The Sauven 6000 plus is built in a modular way with very few components:
- 1 print head
- 1 PCB
- 1 cable
Notice: no pump (No pump, no pump-problems)
Notice: no links between different PCBs, no communication problems
Notice: less PCBs, less PCB problems
Notice: reduced number of parts means reduced number of spare parts needed
SAUVEN MARKING LTD P9
DIMENSIONS

Sauven 6000 Plus can be easily fitted in most machines or limited spaces
Sauven 6000 Plus is easy to send in the post or to bring to a customer
Sauven 6000 Plus fits in a normal brief case, ideal for a repair kit or demo unit

SECURE INK SUPPLY

The ink is supplied in a closed ink cartridge.
- No contact with air
- Ink cartridge can be changed during operation
- No ink confusion: the cartridges are unique in shape so no other ink can be
accidentally introduced into the machine.

EASY INSTALLATION
- Electrical supply only
- No compressed air is needed, because of the short tubing and the position of the
cartridge, the Codajet 6000 works on the principle of gravity and capillarity
- THIS FEATURE ALLOWS TABLE TOP DEMONSTRATIONS

SERVICING AND REPAIR

- Because of the modular build, problems can be located very easily.
- Sauven 6000 Plus parts are 100% interchangeable, between similar machines and
between the 2 models. If for example an electronic problem occurs, the lid (top part)
can be swapped between different machines.
- Because of the modular build, easy to service: replace the concerning part at the
customer and take the defected part away for repair or service.
- The number of spare parts is limited and equal for all models
- A Codajet 6000 that needs servicing or repair can be sent in the post
- A replacement Codajet 6000 can be sent in the post

MAINTENANCE
- No yearly maintenance needed
- Preventive action: filter replacement once per year
Many multiple unit users keep 1 extra Codajet 6000 in stock. They use it as
- A back up unit
- A spare part provider
- A replacement unit during the maintenance cycle

EASY TO OPERATE
- No programming skills required
- Advanced functions hidden from operator
- Graphic key board
- No start-up or shut-down procedure
- Security levels available to avoid accidental change of parameters

SAUVEN MARKING LTD P 10

Print Head Protection
PROTECTIVE SHUTTER
This shutter can be manually or automatically closed during periods of non-use of
the Sauven 6000Plus. When the shutter is closed it gives better protection to the
print head against physical damage and against ink drying inside the print head.

- Longer time for the print head to remain wet when not printing (1 - 5 hours)
- Much less drying of the ink on the print head during long breaks (1 - 10 days)
- Better physical protection during storage
- Better physical protection during transportation

INTERNAL FUSE

The Remote V2 is also equipped with an internal fused print

head connector that is placed between the Print head and the
communication cable. This will protect the print head against
voltage spikes. The fuses are mounted on a small PCB which
is disposable and can be quickly replaced if needed.

 CODAJET VERSUS DOD PRINTERS

SAUVEN MARKING LTD P 11
FIRST: THINK OF THE ADVANTAGES WITH REGARDS TO SIMILAR PRINTERS

THEN CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:

In this market we mostly sell on quality and not on price. The customer wants a
nice hi-resolution print quality that fits with his product image rather than a DOD
quality. NOTE that higher resolution allows smaller printing with equal readability.

The Codajet 6000 Plus has more print flexibility if it comes to

- LOGO printing
- mixing different character heights in the same message
- choice of fonts

The ink deposits are much smaller than with DOD machines, resulting in less ink
consumption.

DOD QUALITY

CODAJET SAUVEN QUALITY

Codajet 6000 versus DOD printer

SAUVEN MARKING LTD P 12

 CODAJET VERSUS CIJ PRINTERS
LOW PRICE
In the market of product coding we compete very comfortably on price with the
“slow” CIJ applications (<30m/min). Depending on the country and the number of
lines of text, the Codajet is 25 to 75% cheaper than a CIJ printer.

LOW RUNNING COST

The Codajet 6000 has no maintenance.
Compared to CIJ this will cut running cost dramatically, often one year of CIJ
maintenance and repair has the same cost as a brand new Codajet 6000.
The ink price per character much less than the CIJ price
No solvents needed
No air filters needed
The total running cost of a Sauven 6000 Plus is 20 TIMES less than for a CIJ

8 LINES OF PRINT
Codajet 6000 offers up to 8 lines of 2mm text with the same equipment and for the
same low price.

SIMPLE TECHNOLOGY
Compared to the CIJ, the Codajet 6000 technology is extremely simple. Most
problems can be resolved fast over the phone or on the spot. No specialized and
expensive engineers are needed for repairs.

NO MEK ink
With the Codajet 6000 we use an ink that is does not smell and is not harmful like
the MEK inks used in the CIJ printer.

POWER-CUT-SAFE
In case the power supply is suddenly cut off, the Codajet 6000 will resume printing
when the power returns. The Codajet has no shut-down procedure and can be
switched off simply by pressing the switch on/off button or by disconnecting the
power.
In case the power supply fails while a CIJ printer is switched on, the ink will dry
instantly inside the print head and the unit will be out of service for several hours
until the head and the tubing is cleaned thoroughly.

NO FILTER
Codajet Sauven 6000 does not use air filters and needs only annual preventive
replacement of the ink filter (£2). The CIJ needs regular replacement of air and ink
filters.

HI RESOLUTION
The Codajet Sauven has a higher print resolution than the CIJ, resulting in better
print quality and allowing smaller printing.
