CYBERCRIME

In today’s Digital age, new kinds of crimes emerge and one of these is Cybercrime.
Cybercrime is becoming very common now due to the availability and easy use of computers and
the internet and because of the fact that people nowadays usually rely on computers for their daily
activities. Cybercrime is a prohibited act that involves computers or networks. It is a rampant
scenario now worldwide and a problem to most of the society. The internet is where we store,
exchange and file our information. We use the internet because it is a more efficient way of storing
information. With this technology humanity is to excel more day by day. Most jobs today work on
the internet, keeping, gathering, and exchanging information. As perfect as the internet sounds still
people do bad things on the internet such as stealing information from other, people stealing money
to people and companies utilizing the internet.
To most Countries and here in the Philippines cybercrime is now a threat to society in fact
with a simple click on the computer and an act of terrorism one can shoot out bombs or even
encourage wars. As said by Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, he stated that, "Our mouse can be just as
dangerous as a bullet or a bomb.” Cybercrime today is a huge threat because of atomic bombs as
one click of a button can lead to nuclear warfare.
There are many types of Cybercrime one common form of cybercrime is identity theft and
Transaction Fraud. Hackers and scammers may use fake emails to trick victims into giving up
passwords and account information, or they may use specialized programs called key-loggers to
track what a user types when logging into bank or credit accounts. My Mother experience such
kind where in an email was sent to her saying that she needs to update her account information in
the bank luckily she was able to watch in the news that there were already several victims of this
type of situation where in they taught that this is just a normal procedure and as they follow that
steps asked to them they did not know that important information such as their online bank
password was breached and worst part is the money they have was already stolen or used to
purchase stuffs online by the other person.
Other types of cybercrimes are Advance fee fraud, Hacking, which is very prevalent to
young people like me some of us becomes victims of such and some gets interested to try to do so
for challenge and some do it for other reasons. It is a common scenario now in Social media.
Piracy, is the copying and distribution of programs, movies, music or other intellectual material
without permission. This is very common in the Philippines. Filipino people due to poverty resort
to buying pirated DVD’s, watching downloaded movies, and downloading music on unrecognized
sites for free. The movie and recording industries in the country have fought against the misuse of
the intellectual property rights with lawsuits and copy protection schemes and the law of copyright.
Cybercriminals attack individuals, business and even the government and its results can
sometimes be devastating. Although most people now a days take precautions to prevent to be a
victim of cybercrime, most of us are still concerned of the potential of becoming a victim. In
conclusion cybercrime is one of the most dangerous crimes in the modern world not only stealing
money but also very important information ,today cybercrime can lead to destruction of lands not
only in physical form of stealing but also stealing of intellectual property .
