Pip Proposal
Pip Proposal
Children are born curious, with the desire to learn. They want to know how the world works.
They do this through exploration in their environments. As students develop and continue through
school, most students lose this desire and curiosity. One of the program’s foundations that follows
under attitude is interest in science.
Interest in Science
Students will be encouraged to develop enthusiasm and continuing interest in the study of science.
For my PIP, I want to develop a resource that teachers can use as a reference to find engaging
science activities that are correlated to the outcomes from the program of studies. I hope is that by
having an accessible resource, teachers will be more inclined to include engaging activities in their
lesson, which will increase students’ interest in science. These activities will include teacher lead
demonstrations and mini-labs which provide students with hands-on opportunities that don’t require
the full class time. These activities are science-focused. I have found that many activities can be used to
demonstrate many different concepts across a variety of grade levels.
Throughout my practicum, I will be developing activities and creating lesson guides to go with
each activity. Sections that will be included in the lesson is materials, safety, curriculum connections/
key concepts, instructional sequence & explanation behind the activity/demonstration. The
demonstrations and activities will come from activities that I do with my class, activities that other
teachers in the school are doing, activities suggested from my teacher mentor & researching activities
online. The focus will be chemistry related because I am teaching chemistry 20 & 30.
The final project will be a website that everyone will have access to, and it will contain all the
activities, demonstrations and mini-labs that I developed throughout the semester. This resource will
help new teachers or new to teaching science teachers, as well as teachers who are looking for new
activities for their class. It will reduce time wasted looking for engaging activities to make science more
interesting to students.
