Rubber-Modified Concrete Hollow Blocks For A Greener Wall Building Material

This document summarizes a research paper on using recycled rubber to modify concrete hollow blocks. The paper acknowledges those who helped with the research. It then provides an abstract that states the research focused on how recycled rubber affects the durability of hollow blocks. Specifically, it examined the ingredient ratios, water absorption, and ability to withstand drops from six feet. The results found rubber-modified blocks absorbed slightly more water on average but were more durable after drops, with only 55% breaking compared to 100% of commercial blocks. Therefore, the paper concludes rubber-modified blocks are more effective as wall building materials.

ABSTRACT

The research entitled “Rubber Modified Concrete Hollow Blocks for a Greener Wall

Building Material” focused on the effect of recycled rubbers on the durability of a hollow

block. Specifically, the study aims to determine the ratio of the ingredients per hollow

block, amount of water that it can absorb, and ability to withstand a 6-feet height.

The data gathered shows difference between the average amounts of water that the

commercial hollow block absorbed which is 0.65 litres (6.97%) and the ones with rubbers

which absorbed 0.79 litres (6.72%) in average. There is also a difference between the

durability of the hollow blocks since 100% of the commercial ones broke into finer pieces

while only 55% of the ones with rubbers broke.

Furthermore, the data gathered through water absorption test shows that the rubber

modified concrete hollow blocks are less water absorbent than the commercial ones. In

addition, the rubber modified concrete hollow block is more effective to use as wall

building material than the commercial one.
