METHOD STATEMENT FOR SURVEY WORK

1.1 SCOPE

This method statement covers, the traverse survey, TBM survey, and center line setting out, center
line marking, cross section survey and submitting of drawings.

1.4 METHODOLOGY

1.4.1 Calibration

(A) Auto level instrument

Calibration certificate for brand new level instrument is given by the manufacturer while a periodical
calibration would be carried out in reputed institute and two peg level tests on the leveling instrument would
be carried out once a month and if any error is observed in the instrument while working, calibrate it
immediately. The calibration certificate is taken with the instrument during the instrument is used.

(B) Total station

Calibration certificate for brand new total station is given by the manufacturer and once in every six month
the calibration would be carried out accordance with relevant standards and if any defect in the instrument
during working calibrate it immediately. The calibration certificate is taken with the instrument during the
instrument is used

1.4.2 Traverse survey

At the commencement of the contract all the basic traverse points will be checked and if any are found to be
missing or appear to have been disturbed, necessary arrangements will be made to re-establish the points and
traverse survey will be carried out jointly with the Engineer and if any adjustments are found, then they
would be carried out with the Engineer. Subsequently, control point coordinates would be submitted to the
Engineer for approval.

1.4.3 TBM survey

Initially the Engineer’s approval is obtained to ties to TBM from permanent bench marks with national grid.
5 number of Temporary bench marks will be established for the site and TBM list and levels would be
submitted to the Engineer for the approval. Checks would be carried out on these bench marks once every
three month and adjustments, if any should be agreed with the Engineer. An up-to-date record of all bench
marks including approved adjustments would be maintained with the Engineer. All the TMB point is
established outside the working area. When the surveying points are absence in the site it is re install
according to it is relocated according to the tie measurements.

1.4.4 Center line setting out and marking

Using total stations and approved coordinates of control points that have been established base on GPS
point, the Chanel center line would be marking at every 10m interval on the Chanel with the suprvisio of
Engineer. Chain age would be marked on the Chanel center line in each 10m respectively.

1.4.5 Correction

According to the Engineer’s instructions, corrections if any, would be made and they would be followed for
the remaining work.

1.4.6 Cross section survey

The cross section survey would be commenced as soon as line is marked and approved by the Engineer.
Level of the cross section will be taken at every chain age point marked that is on 10m interval on the center
line.

1.5 SURVEYING AT A ROAD – OPERATING PROCEDURE

In accordance with RDA, traffic control methods the following traffic operation procedure would be adopted
in order to control traffic.

 Men at work 100m ahead sing boards would be placed on both left hand side of the road.
 25m away from men at work sign narrow road sign would be placed in order to notify the drivers
with regard to road situation.
 Working area will be cordon with traffic cones to identify survey setting out to oncoming traffic on
both sides.
 Traffic controllers (with safety jackets and helmets) would be deployed on both sides in order
to control traffic.
 “one way traffic ahead ’’ sign boards would be placed 90m ahead of working area in order to notify
oncoming drivers.
 Traffic priority board would also be placed for controlling traffic.
 Photographs would be taken to disseminate and maintain traffic safety records.

1.6 SUBMISSION OF DRAWINGS

Initial cross section drawing plotted on A4 sheet on scale of 1:20 horizontal direction, 1:50 vertical direction
and longitudinal profiles which are available at Ocean Pathway (both hard & soft copy) would be submitted
to the Engineer along with back up data sheets for approval.

1.7 SETTING OUT

All reference points for setting out & related drawings shall also be referred. Setting out & finish level of
each component of the items shall be checked & confirmed by surveyor /Engineer prior to work
