Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 5

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics lesson on experimental probability for 5th grade students. The lesson objectives are to identify probability through experimental results, perform experiments to find probabilities and list results, and enjoy performing the experiments. Students will be divided into groups to conduct experiments with dice, colored balls, a spinning wheel, and playing cards to calculate probabilities and record their results. They will find probabilities by counting outcomes and dividing the number of times an event occurs by the total number of possible outcomes.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 5

Date: March 14, 2018

I. Lesson Objectives

Cognitive: Identify the probability through the recorded results

Psychomotor: Performs an experimental probability then show the results through listing

Affective: Find enjoyment in performing the experimental probability

II. Learning Content

Skill: Performs an experimental probability and records result by listing. (M5SP-IVi-15)

Reference: Number Smart Worktext in Mathematics 5

Materials: spinning wheel, colored balls, dice, deck of cards, different pictures and box

Value: Cooperate in doing the group activity.

III. Learning Experience

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

Preparatory Activities
1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Energizer
Class let’s have first a dance exercise follow what is in
the video. Are you ready class?
Yes ma’am we are ready.
A. Engage
1. Drill
Get the sticks that has cards on it and listen to my
questions then raise unlikely, equally likely or most likely
depending on your personal answer. Did you get it class?
Yes ma’am!
1. People will die in the future?
most likely
2. Someone will won the jackpot price in lotto today?
Equally likely, unlikely
3. The weather will be fine the whole day?
most likely, equally likely
4. Most of the boys in grade 5 Kamagong are playing
sipa?
most likely, equally likely
2. Review
I will give a box on the first pupil then it will be passed on
the next pupil and I will play a music, if the music stops
the pupil that is holding the box will be the one to pick a
card and read the question then answer it also.

1. It is the likelihood of an event to happen?

probability
2. The probability of an event can be shown as?
a fraction or decimal number
3. The synonym for probability is?
chance
4. If it is unlikely the probability is?
0.00
5. If it is equally likely the probability is?
0.5
6. If it is most likely the probability is?
1

3. Motivation
Let’s have a game called 4 pics 1 word, are you familiar
with that game? Yes ma’am

S X E M E R
T N Z I P E

I need ten pupils to organize the letters to form the

correct word according to the pictures as a clue.

E

Class what is the word that has been formed?
experiment
Thank you! So experiment has something to do with our
lesson for today.

4. Presentation
It is about Experimental Probability. To compute the
probability of an event we have the formula which is
number of ways the event can occur
𝑃 =number of all possible outcome in the experiment

Of course we need to list the number of times the event

occur.
For example I have here a coin what part of the coin you
want to get the probability?
head
So I will toss the coin once.
Number of Head Tail
Possible
Outcome
2 1
number of ways the event can occur
𝑃 =number of all possible outcome in the experiment
1
P= 2
Now what is the probability of getting a head in a single
toss?
Equally Likely
Let’s have another toss
Number of Head Tail
Possible
Outcome
2 1

number of ways the event can occur

𝑃 =number of all possible outcome in the experiment
0
P=2 or 0 so if it is 0 our probability is
Unlikely
Now class do you want to perform an experimental
probability? Yes ma’am

B. Explore
1. Group Activity
I will divide you in four groups you have to pick a leader
and get your materials here.
Group 1
Material: 10 Dice
Mission: Find the probability of getting even numbers in
10 dice have at least 5 trials
Group 2
Material: 20 Different Color of Balls
Mission: Find the probability of picking green balls out of
20 balls have at least 5 trials.
Group 3:
Material: Spinning wheel
Mission: Find the probability of getting yellow color out
of 4 colors have at least 10 trials
Group 4:
Material: Deck of cards
Mission: Find the probability of getting all face cards in a
deck of cards. Pick the cards 20 times

C. Explain
1. Guided activity
Now the leader will report the result of the probability to
the class.

D. Elaborate
1. Generalization
Class what will you do first to know the probability of an
event? Know first the number of ways the event can occur by
performing an experiment then list it.

After that what is next? Then after that we should also know the number of
possible outcome.
After finding all of it what will be the last step?
Solve it by using the formula
number of ways the event can occur
𝑃 =number of all possible outcome in the experiment

Very good class now let’s have another activity.

2. Application
Now I have here a deck of cards, what you are going to
do is to get the probability of getting a suit of diamonds
while I’m the one who is picking the cards then you are Number Clubs Diamonds Spades Hearts
going to list it on your paper then solve for the of
probability. Possible

3. Valuing
Class how do you find the activities earlier?
It was fun ma’am
Did you enjoy finding the probability with your group
mates?
Yes ma’am
It is good to hear that you all enjoy it.
Now let’s see if you really understand our lesson.
