COURSE INFORMATION
1. Course Number : GE 14
2. Course Name : Technical Writing
3. Course Description : This course is designed to respond to the need of students to gain
proficiency in the use of the English language in order to communicate
thoughts and ideas effectively through technical reports. It is intended
to help students be conscious of the correct production of reports
necessary in their fields.

6. Credit : 3.0 units

First Exam Part 1: Module 1 Multiple Choice You are expected to demonstrate a wholesome knowledge on the different scopes
Questions and definition of architectural technical writing. This includes understanding the
(70% of the exam) definitions, purpose, and characteristics of various technical reports used in the
architecture field. You are also expected to learn the functions of these reports
and under what circumstances they should be written.
Second Part 2: Module 2 Multiple Choice You are expected to demonstrate mastery over the grammatical rules and
Exam Questions mechanics necessary for technical report writing. Such topics include the use of
(70% of the exam) standard English, subject-verb agreement, and identification of erroneous
sentences. You are encouraged to review and apply the grammar mechanics
learned from ENG 101 and basic report writing from ENG 201. You are expected to
be critical in applying these rules in writing.
Third Exam Part 3: Module 3 Multiple Choice You are expected to demonstrate deep knowledge of the jargons used in technical
Part 4: Module 3 Questions report writing in the architectural field and use these effectively. You are also
(70% of the exam) expected to write complete reports using 5Ws and 1H, practice writing mainly the
four types of reports (Feasibility Report, Outline Proposals, Scheme Design and
Progress Reports to Client).
Final Exam Part 1-4 Multiple Choice This assessment task is designed for you to demonstrate a comprehensive

First Exam Part 1: Module 1-2 Short essay  The purpose of this task is for you to exhibit your basic understanding of technical
(30% of the exam) architectural reports ( e.g., background, definitions, purpose, characteristics)
through writing.
 This will also serve as an assessment of your writing skills in preparation of the
upcoming lessons.
 The class will be divided into 5 clusters. Each cluster will be given a topic for the
essay, based from the lessons that were discussed.
 Based on the assigned topic, individuals from each cluster must write an
independent essay.
 Essay must contain at least 3 paragraphs, consisting of the introduction, body, and
conclusion, with each paragraph containing 3-5 sentences.
 You are given 2 days to complete the task and pass it before the deadline.
 Rubrics are as follows:
1. Coherence (15 points)
2. Grammar and Mechanics (15 points)
3. Depth of Understanding (20 points)

Second Part 2: Module 3-6 Correcting  The purpose of this task is for you to effectively apply correct grammar and

13. Policies and guidelines

a. Attendance is counted from the first regular class meeting.


b. A validated student identification card must always by worn be all students while attending classes.
c. Cheating is strictly prohibited. Any form of dishonesty shall be dealt with accordingly. Honesty is
called for at all times.
d. Valid examination permits are necessary in taking the examinations as scheduled. CELLULAR
PHONES or any ELECTRONIC GADGETS and PRESCRIBED PRC CALCULATORS are NOT allowed during
EXAMINATIONS.
e. Base-15 grading policy should be observed. Students who obtained failing scores in major exams are
recommended to attend the tutorial class.
