4. Sandy soil contains large particles with large spaces.
5. Odometer is installed in a car for measuring the distance travelled by the car.
6. Gall bladder stores the bile juice.

V.
1. With the paint, air and moisture cannot come in contact with the iron object and hence
no rusting takes place.
2. While grazing, cow does not chew its food completely. It is digested partially in the
rumen which is to be brought back in the mouth of a cow and chewed thoroughly.
3. The cramps occur when muscle cells respire anaerobically because of less availability
of oxygen than required.
4. Farmers built steps called terraces on hill side to prevent the top soil from being washed
away.
5. The roots of vegetation growing in the soil, bind the particles of top soil firmly so the
blowing wind and flowing rain water are not able to carry away the top soil and hence
soil erosion does not occur.
6. Air being a very poor conductor of heat, prevents the body heat of birds from escaping
to the cold surroundings and hence keep the birds warm in cold weather.
VI.
1.
conduction convection
The process of transmission of heat The phenomenon due to
energy without the actual movement which particles of a medium
of particles from their position. actually move to the source
of heat energy and then
move away from it after
absorbing heat energy.
It occurs in solid. This occurs in liquids and gases.

5.
Breathing Cellular Respiration
a. A physical process that involves a. A process of oxidation of food
exchange of gases. in the cells with release of
carbon dioxide and energy.
b. It is an extracellular process. b. It is an intracellular process.

VII.
1. Lichens produce acid which helps in corroding of the rocky surface and producing fine
soil particles.
2. The kink allows mercury to force its way up in the capillary tube, but does not allow the
mercury to flow back on its own, unless the thermometer is given a jerk. Thus it helps in
reading the temperature of a patient properly.
3. The bottom of a vessel is black because black colour absorbs radiant heat rapidly from
fire. The shiny side does not radiate heat quickly. Thus, heat gets trapped within the
vessel which gets hot rapidly.
4. a) small intestine
b) stomach
c) small intestine
d) large intestine
5. During burning of wood, new substances are formed and hence it is a chemical change.
While cutting the wood into small pieces no new substance is formed, only shape and
size changes, thus it is a physical change. Hence, burning of wood and cutting it into
small pieces are considered as two different types of changes.

VIII.
1. When the athlete runs in the race, his body needs more oxygen. His rate of
breathing increases as by doing so more oxygen can be supplied to the body. This is the
reason, an athlete needs to breathe faster and deeper than usual; after finishing the race.
2. Sea Breeze – During day time sun shines equally on the land and sea. The temperature of
the land rises more rapidly as compared to the sea as the specific heat capacity of the land
is far less than sea. Thus the air above the land gets heated. This hot air expands and rises
up. This results in fall of pressure over the surface of land. To make up this fall of
pressure the cold air from the sea blows towards the land giving rise to sea breeze.
Land breeze – During night land and sea lose heat. Land loses its heat more rapidly. Thus
the air above the land becomes colder than the sea. The warm air above the sea expands
and rises up. Thus the air pressure falls over the sea. To make up this fall in pressure the
cold air from the land starts blowing towards the sea giving rise to land breeze.
3. Total time taken to reach her college= 1 hour 15 minutes
3
= 1 x 60 + 15 = 60+15= 75 min = h
4
Speed of the car = 50 km/hour
3
D = time x speed = x 50 = 62.5 km
4
Therefore, distance of her college from her home is 62.5 km.

4. Cellulose is a type of carbohydrate that can be digested by ruminants and not by

humans. Ruminants have a large sac-like structure called Rumen where the food
containing cellulose is digested by the action of certain bacteria which produce an
enzyme called cellulase which digests cellulose. On the other hand, humans cannot
digest cellulose, as the cellulose digesting enzymes are absent in them.

5.
Water in a beaker
Add few drops of H2SO4
Let the solution boil
Copper sulphate added while stirring
Solution is saturated

Filtered and cooled

Leave it undisturbed
Crystals of Copper sulphate separates.

weight of soil sample
