Closing The Divide

The document discusses three ways to help close the digital divide: 1) Offering affordable internet plans priced at $9.99 per month to help low-income households access the internet at home; 2) Providing free technology training to teach computer illiterate and elderly people how to use computers and other technology; 3) Nearly everything in today's society requires using the internet or technology, so these measures can help more people learn how to use important digital tools and participate online.

Closing the Divide

Affordable Internet

Affordable internet can help families and people with low income to be able to

afford to get online with either wireless internet or an Ethernet cable connected to

computer. Comcast is one of the companies who have already started offering affordable

internet at a price that is convenient and available to low income household. It is called

internet essentials and you are given unlimited internet for $9.99 a month. Affordable

internet is very important because today’s society uses internet for pretty much

everything and if you are not able to get to a library you should be able to get internet at

home without paying an arm and a leg.

Free technology training

Offering free technology training for computer illiterate and the elderly can help

close the divide because those who are not aware of how to use computer or other

technology items will be able to get assistance in the use and need of them. Since mostly

everything is online or by use of technology now it is very important to help others know

how to function such items. Computer, cells phones and even kiosks are how a lot of our

everyday things are being done now. We have to use items to pay bills online, schedule

appointments, check results and even communicate with friends or bosses. Offering the

help will allow them to keep up with the speed of how technology is developing.
