The construction methodology shall follow EFRC technic using controlled blasting, half tunnelling/ and quarter
tunnelling wherever possible using Geo-tech reports. All excavation shall be carried out as per the plans and
sections of the alignment and minor adjustment shall be done to arrive at the best possible alignment, gradient and
at the same time most economical.
The Geo-technical and Environment reports shall be reffered at all time for compliance with ECOP (Environment
code of practice).[700]

The excavation shall be paid as Solid Volume. Solid volume is the volume of excavation calculated directly
from the foundation dimensions of the structure without allowance for bulking, shrinkage, wastage,
working space, slope cutting etc. But the contractor has to be aware of the fact that the soil cannot be dug
vertically and that additional excavations would be required for getting the working space around the foundations,
slope cutting etc. and the contractor has to account for these additional quantities while setting rates for the
excavation works.
14. A. 1 Clearing & grubbing of site including uprooting all vegetation, grass, bush shrubs, saplings and trees of girth up to
300 mm, removal of stumps of trees of girth of all sizes including removing stumps of trees cut earlier and disposal
of unserviceable materials and stacking of serviceable materials as directed by engineer with all leads and lifts etc.

14. A . 3 Breaking of hard rocks using controlled blasting and disposal of unusable materials within necessary lead. The
blasting operation has to be carried out by skilled blaster and it has to be so controlled that it doesn't disturb the
portion of the bed rock that has to support the abutment. The contractor will be allowed to use the useful materials
(if any) from the blasting for the bridge project and therefore the consideration for the same has to be made while
setting the rates. The cost for operation of compressor, drill rod and all other efforts required to complete the task
has to be included in the rate . This quantity is for Right bank only. The rock excavation shall be paid as
solid volume. However, for the rock excavation on the toe side (river side) of the abutments, the excavation shall
be done as per the excavation line shown in the relevant drawings.[2.2]
14. A . 4 Backfilling around and behind the foundations, abutments, return walls and approaches. Handling, loading,
offloading, transportation, watering and all necessary works shall be included in the rate. The back filling shall be
done as per the instruction of site engineer and in layers not more than 300mm thick and compacted well
with earth rammer or compactor. The Client's site engineer will strictly supervise this to make sure that full
compaction is achieved. While the backfilling for the approach roads to the bridge shall be paid as per actual
quantity, the backfilling in and around the abutments and the wingwalls shall be paid as soild volume. [2.3]
14. A . 5 Rock anchoring works on the right bank abutment. The work involves drilling of minimum 32mm diameter drill holes,
placing of the reinforcement (as per design) in the hole and packing it with rich cement motar 1:1. The
reinforcement has to be placed centrally in the hole so that the cement motar fill the gap uniformly around the
reinforcement bar. The depth of the drill holes are shown in the drawing. The reinforement shall be paid seperately.
All other efforts and expenses required for completing the task shall be included in the rates. [4.11]
14. A . 6 Providing and laying coarse gravel (filter layer) behind the abutment & return walls as per drawing. Thickness
d=50 cm. The filter materials to be used have to be approved by the client. Handling, loading, offloading,
transportation and all necessary work shall be included in the rate. [2.3]
14. A . 7 Providing and Laying stone soling under the left abutment foundation of thickness 20cm. Rounded stones obtained
from the river bank/bed shall not permitted to be used. If they are at all used, they have to be broken up or crushed
to smaller pieces. The sizes of the stones used for soling shall be smaller than the thickness of soling required and
so graded that they produce a compacted stone soling. No additional payment will be made for the additional
thickness provided.[2.3]
14. A . 9 Providing & laying of lean concrete M10 for drain near approach slab , 20mm agg. including all works. The
formwork will be paid seperately. The rate has to include all works and materials to fulfil the task including curing.

The formwork shall include all temporary or permanent forms required for forming the concrete of the shape,
dimensions and surface finish as shown in the relevant drawings including removal of the form work after the time
specified in the specifications or as directed by the Engineer/Client. The formwork shall be of timber, plywoood
(only waterproof marine plywood and not ordinary commercial ply) or steel plates. The standard form
work oil shall be used to prevent the fresh concrete from sticking to the shuttering board. The use of old/used mobil
oil shall not be permitted. [3.6]
14. A .10 Providing and fixing vertical formwork for the foundation slab of the abutments [3.6]

For rienforced concrete M25 grade and above, the contractor has to carryout testing of the local materials like
sand, aggregate and cement that it intends to use for the concrete and carryout mix design. This has to be followed
by preparation and testing of the trial mixes. It may be necessary to use concrete admixtures to achieve the desired
strength of the concrete. The particular mix proportion to be used for the concrete of particular grade shall be
approved by the client only after the contractor is able to produce the trial mix results of the proposed mix
proportion.
The contractor shall not be paid for material testing, mix design, preparation and testing of trial mixes and so forth.
The expenses for these efforts have to be included under the relevant items of work. The Grades of concrete
mentioned in the BoQ are as per IS:456 - 2000. The cost for use of concrete admixtures and other necessary
efforts required to achieve the desired concrete strength has to be included in the rates and shall not be paid
seperately. The admixture type, brand etc. has to however be approved by the client.

specification. Reference will be made to the reinforcement list for calculating the weight of the reinforcement for
which the contractor is eligible for payment. The contractor will not be paid for any wastage. The contractor has to
consider and include wastage into his pricing of the unit rates.

as a soil excavation irrespective of the nature and type of soil - sand , gravel, boulder or any type of rock requiring
or not requiring blasting[2.2]
14.C.3 Breaking of hard rocks using controlled blasting and disposal of unusable materials within necessary lead. The
blasting operation has to be carried out by skilled blaster and it has to be so controlled that it doesn't disturb the
portion of the bed rock that has to support the abutment. The contractor will be allowed to use the useful materials
(if any) from the blasting for the bridge project and therefore the consideration for the same has to be made while
setting the rates. The cost for operation of compressor, drill rod and all other efforts required to complete the task
has to be included in the rate . This quantity is for Right bank only. The rock excavation shall be paid as
solid volume. However, for the rock excavation on the toe side (river side) of the abutments, the excavation shall
be done as per the excavation line shown in the relevant drawings.[2.2]
14.C.5 Rock anchoring works on the right bank abutment. The work involves drilling of minimum 32mm diameter drill holes,
placing of the reinforcement (as per design) in the hole and packing it with rich cement motar 1:1. The
reinforcement has to be placed centrally in the hole so that the cement motar fill the gap uniformly around the
reinforcement bar. The depth of the drill holes are shown in the drawing. The reinforement shall be paid seperately.
All other efforts and expenses required for completing the task shall be included in the rates. [4.11]
