CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Today Competitive Examination System has become a fast growing examination


method because of its speed and accuracy. It is also needed less manpower to
execute the examination. Almost all organizations now-a-days, are conducting
their objective exam by online examination system, it saves students time in
examination system, it saves students time in examinations. Organization can also
easily check the performance of the student that they give in an examination. As a
result of this, organizations are releasing results in less time. It also helps the
environment by saving paper. Many exams conducted for entry into jobs are

According to today’s requirement, Competitive examination project in ASP.NET is


very useful to learn it.

1.1 Background
Competitive Examination System is a system through which many
educational institutions and all users can benefit from. Many institutions use
various paper materials and pens to process the manual examination. But in
this system, it provides the student information, questionnaires, and answers
and automatically compute the scores. It is conducted through the website
which improves accessibility for remote candidates. Candidate is given a
limited time to answer the questions and after the time expiry the answer
paper is disabled automatically and answer is sent to the examiner. The
examiner will evaluate answers, either through automated process or
manually and the results will be sent to candidate. Today many organizations
conducts online examination worldwide successfully and issues results
online. There are advantages and disadvantages in competitive examination.

1.2 Objectives
 Competitive examination will reduce the hectic job of assessing the
answers given by the candidate manually
 Being an integrated Online examination system it will reduce paper
work
 To allow faculty to give additional time to students which disabilities.
 To allow faculty to create tests and answer key.
 To allow automatic grading and manual grading which can be recorded
per test.

1.3 Purpose, Scope, and Applicability


1.3.1 Purpose

This websites provides facility to online examination worldwide. It saves time as it


allows number of candidates to give the exam at same time and display the results
at the end of the tests, so there is no need to wait for the result. It is evaluated by
the server. Administrator has privileges to create, modify and delete the test
papers and its particular questions. User can register, login and give the test with
specific id, and can see the results as well.

1.3.2 Scope

Scope of this project is very broad in terms of other manually taking exams.

 Can be used anywhere any time as it is a web based application(user location


doesn’t matter)
 No restriction that examiner has to be present when the candidate takes the
test.
 Design to facilitate administrator and user.
 Online examination is designed to candidate logic test for their students or
employees on regular basis.

1.3.3 Applicability

To develop this website we’ve taken into account some assumption. They are:
 University will provide each student a unique student Id during enrollment
time. The purpose of this so that no one can register on behalf of any other
student. And only the student himself/herself can register for the
examination using this id.
 Student login name generally automatically by concatenating student first
name and Enrollment No.
Like: Ravi Yadav has student id -13P
So, Ravi student login here will be-Ravi_R13
 Expert login name will be generate same as student login name but with
small change.
Like: Expert login= (Expert First name+ Course Name)

1.4 Achievements
If you are preparing for staff selection commission and other competitive
