Cooperative Learning Lesson Plan
I. Describe the Class
My class has a total of 26 third graders in it, who’s boy to girl ratio is 11:15.

II. Objective(s)
During this assignment the student’s objectives will be to read one passage out of a
packet and to answer five questions at the end.

III. Procedures
1. At the start of class I will inform my students of today’s different lunch options
and start to go over what we are going to learn today.
2. Part of my lesson involves students working in groups and individually, and I will
rotate my lessons to not leave them alone or in a group for too long.
3. My first procedure in breaking my students up into groups is to make them as
even as possible. I will have four groups of five and one group of six.
4. Then I will pass out the packets for their first group assignment and go over the
instructions and what I want them to look for while reading. Then I will also
briefly talk about the five questions at the end of the passage that I want them to
answer.
5. During this assignment each student in the group will read one part of the passage
aloud to the rest of their group so each student must participate.

IV. Materials
The materials I will need for this lesson is to print out 27 copies of the passage and the
questionnaire. I will also need to bring out some extra writing utensils just in case a
student does not have anything to write with.

V. Grouping Structures
For this assignment I will allow the students thirty seconds to get into groups of five and
one group of six. If after the thirty seconds is up and students are not in their groups, then
I will assign them numbers to correspond with their new groups.

VI. Modifications
At this point I do not for see any modifications being needed but if an interruption or
distraction may arise from a group(s) then I will have to then adjust the groups again.
Also, I will be able to modify the lesson if any students have an IEP.
VII. Assessment
My assessment to see how well the students were about to read and understand the
passage will be the five multiple choice questions I have them answer at the end. These
questions will be specific and right out of the passage they just read. This will be a test to
see if each student was paying attention while the other students were reading.
