"Lab Report# 7" "DSP": Hifza Sajid (SP-12-BET-029) Marryam Nawaz (SP-12-BET-043)

Group members Hifza Sajid and Marryam Nawaz submitted a lab report to instructor Ma'am Sumayya Haroon on familiarizing themselves with the 'FFT-scope' block in MATLAB. They generated a sinusoid with 5 frequency components using 5 sine wave functions with different frequencies. These components were displayed in the FFT-scope to analyze the signal's frequency spectrum. They wrote a detailed report explaining how they performed the tasks of generating the multi-frequency sinusoid and displaying it in the FFT-scope using Simulink tools.

In Lab Tasks

Task 1: Familiarize yourself with the ‘FFT-scope’ block and discuss the purpose of
‘buffer input’ checkbox in your reports
Answer:
Buffer input sequence to smaller on larger frame size. Buffer block always performs frame-based
processing. The block redistributes the data in each column of the input to produce an output with a
different frame. Buffering a signal to a larger frame size yields an output with a slower frame rate than
the input.

OUTPUT BUFFER SIZE:

Specify the number of consecutive samples, with M0, from each channel to buffer input into the output
frame.

Buffer overlap:
Specify the number of samples, L, by which consecutive output frames overlap.

Initial conditions:

We must specify the value of the block's initial output for cases of nonzero latency; a scalar,
vector, or matrix
Task 2 & 3: Generate a sinusoid containing 5 frequency components & display these
components in the FFT-scope

Graphs
TASK 4: Write a detailed report on the tasks performed in this lab

Answer: In this lab, we generated a sinusoid containing 5 frequency components and displayed
these components in the FFT-scope. We used Simulink tool of mat lab to perform these tasks.
We selected 5 different sine wave functions from sources of signal processing blockset, and
gave them different frequencies, then we selected fft scope from sinks of signal processing
blockset, we connected 5 different sinusoids through summer with 5 connecting nodes and
connected this summer to fft scope to get fft of these sinusoids.
