RBI Phase 1 Recap 1st August 18 Reasoning Alpha Numeric Series 1
Alphanumeric series is a combination of alphabetic and numeric characters. In some cases, it may
include upper and lowercase letters, punctuation marks, and symbols (such as @, &, and *,).
This type of reasoning is a mixed bag of coding-decoding, series-based reasoning and finding position-
based reasoning questions.
Points to note:
Let us understand the meaning of few key words that are generally used in such questions like
"following, followed by, preceding, and preceded by".
Let us take two successive alphabets Y and Z. Here, Y is preceding Z and Z is preceded by Y. Also, Z is
following Y and Y is followed by Z.
ALPHA NUMERIC SERIES
Solution (a)
Q.1) Find the missing term: For the first alphabet we jump from one alphabet to
J2Z, K4X, I7V, ___, H16R, F22P the next alphabet and then to the alphabet right
[a] G11T before the first jump.
[b] G11S The numbers move with a gap of 2, 3, 4 …..
[c] L12S For the last alphabet count from Z leaving one
[d] G11U alphabet in the count.
Hence, next pair should be G11T.
ALPHA NUMERIC SERIES
Solution (b)
There are three series in the sequence:
The numbers to the left of the letters- 16, 18, 21, 25
are increasing continuously by 1 more than the
Q.6) Find the missing term:
previous increase i.e., the series of increases in these
16D7, 18G10, 21K14, 25P19, ___
numbers are 2, 3, 4 and the next number should be
[a] 30V20
+5, thus 25 + 5 = 30.
[b] 30V25
The letters DGKP form a series where 2, 3 and 4
[c] 30V24
letters are skipped every time. Hence, the next letter
[d] 29V25
would be V.
Similarly, 7, 10, 14, 19 would give 25 as the next
term.
Thus, the correct answer would be 30V25.
