A Phenomenological Study about

How Grade 12 Students

Improve themselves by joining

Clubs and Organization

in Bulacan Standard Academy

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This chapter is going to present the contents and the ideas of this study. That includes the
introduction, the sub- questions, significance of the study, the scope and delimitations, the
objectives of this phenomenological study and the definition of terms that were defined
operationally.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

At the beginning of each new school year, students find themselves comparing the
benefits of joining a student organization to the sometimes-overwhelming time commitment it
requires. Joining an organization allows you to not only get involved with something you
harborpassion for, but also meet others who share a similar interest. Making those friendships
can be essential to maintaining positive mental health. In many cases, involvement in campus
organizations segues into leadership roles, which offer students the opportunity to not only learn
skills that will more than likely benefit them in their future careers but also to network and make
connections they can lean on when trying to start a career. (Breanne Williams, 2016)

When stating some of the benefits of participating in extracurricular activities, some

believe that this leads to positive youth development. What exactly is positive youth
development? Morrissey (2005) describes positive youth development as encompassing five
constructs: (1) competence in academic, social, and vocational areas; (2) confidence; (3)
connection to family, community, and peers; (4) character; and (5) caring and compassion.

One of the goals of higher education is to prepare students for their profession or
occupation. In addition to the traditional classroom environment, there are other opportunities
that can help students in promoting their professional interests and developing professional skills
(Patterson, 2012). Involvement in student organizations is considered as one of those
opportunities for skill development. Foubert and Grainger (2006) have reported that
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Poblacion, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

moreinvolved students have greater skill development compared to uninvolved students that
have lower developmental scores.

According to Hall (2012), student organizations offer approaches to stimulate learning

experience beyond the classroom curriculum. They create networking opportunities among
students with similar personal and professional interests and provide the probability of building
networks to bigger communities beyond an organization (Hall, 2012).

Through participation in student organizations, students can maintain relationships with

other individuals that have the same professional interests; develop stronger mentoring
relationships with their teachers; gain ability to think critically, plan appropriately and make
decisions. (Hall, 2012)

According to Gardner et al. (2008), theory and research on positive youth development
emphasizes the transition of human development, and suggest that cultivating positive,
supportive relationships with people and social institutions encourages healthy development.
Considering this perspective, organized activities, such as extra-curricular activities, can
encourage healthy development because of the support and opportunities that are present
compared to less positive after school options for teens. Students who participate in structured
activities are more likely to respect diversity, play by the rules, and contribute as a member of a
team whether it is sports, scouting or clubs.

We all know that joining clubs is one of the best ways to enhance our talents and skills. It
teaches us the value of teamwork and can also develop our leadership skills. It encourages us to
strive more and help us to be the better version of ourselves.

This research that currently conducting focuses on how students improve themselves by
engaging in club organizations. It will help the students to know the benefits and advantages of
club organizations academically, or to one’s attitude. This will also help them choose clubs to
further enhance their social skills and talents.

GENERAL STATEMENT

The purpose of this Phenomenological Research is to describe the self-improvement of

Grade 12 students in Bulacan Standard Academy by joining Club Organizations.

SUB-QUESTIONS

 How does participating in school clubs make an improvement to the Grade 12 students
of Bulacan Standard Academy?
 How do the Grade 12 students in Bulacan Standard Academy handle the problems of
being a club member?

OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH

The researchers can foresee that at the end of this study we will be able:

 to describe the commonalities in self-improvement of Grade 12 students who join clubs

and organization
 to compare the change of personality before and after joining club and organization
 to identify how the students coped up with the challenges they encounter while
performing in their club

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Whether you are about to start applying to colleges for the fall or you are just starting
high school and want to become more involved, choosing to join a student organization is always
a great one. By joining a student organization, there are a lot of benefits that can be gained. Even
though it can be a lot to balance between classes, your social life, and more, it is still something
Republic of the Philippines

worth investing some time in for the long term gains and experience. This is something that can
directly impact your career as well as who you develop into as a person. (Henry R. Steele, 2017)

To STUDENTS, they may try to join club/s and continue pursuing it because of the happiness
that it can give to them as member. Joining clubs will also develop their leadership, commitment
and effective communication towards other people.

To YOUTH, they may consider joining club organization to boost their confidence and sharing
their talent not just inside the school but also in the community. They may be inspired or
motivated and start sharing their talents while they're still young to improve themselves. They
may also improve communication skills because of the other people they can interact with
outside their home and school.

To PARENTS, they may be more confident because their children are more independent and
responsible. Having their child joining clubs makes them proud too especially when they see that
there are good things that are happening to their child and when parents see their child happy and
enjoying, they also become happy.

To TEACHERS, they may consider joining clubs plays an important role in every student. The
more students that join in clubs to excel and become more active, the more they'll feel proud and
confident that they have students who are committed to these activities for their self
improvement. They may feel delighted on how students can improve themselves outside the four
corners of a classroom and socialize with their co-club members.

To ADMINISTRATORS, they will benefit as well, because of students take the responsibility
for doing other activities inside the school. It will not be difficult to the administrators to handle
some activities inside the school because there are students who can help them to organize some
activities.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The approach used in this research study is qualitative approach which deals with the
non-statistical method of inquiry. This type of qualitative research is Phenomenology which
deals on commonalities rather than focusing on the unique characteristics of the selected
samples. The research was conducted in Grade 12 students of Bulacan Standard Academy
academic year 2018 - 2019.

The study focuses on how joining clubs and organization can make an improvement to a
student but will also discuss some negative aspects of being a club meme. The research samples
used in this study are composed of twenty students in Grade 12. The data gathering method that
has been used in this research is through interviews, observations, documentations and using
audio visual materials to record all information that respondents will say.

The researchers also distribute semi-structured questionnaire that tackles about how
joining clubs can make an improvement to the students and how did they handle the problems
when they joined in. Each of the respondents was given the same questionnaire to answer.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED OF LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter will discuss the foreign and local literature pertaining to common positive
effects in youth development based on participating in extracurricular activities particularly in
clubs and organization. It will also provide some of the negative effects that may also take place
in adolescent development due to injury, limited opportunity or over-scheduled participation.
Furthermore, this chapter will include what schools can do to encourage students to participate in
extracurricular activities in hopes of reducing absenteeism, bullying, and high dropout rates.
Lastly, this chapter will describe how extracurricular activities can affect personal, social and
academic development in a positive manner.

BENEFITS OF CLUB ORGANIZATION

According to McElhenny (2018), student organizations have a lot to offer. Whether you
join as a member or choose to lead one, simply taking part in an extracurricular group will
enhance your school experience. Gaining skills, making connections, and broadening your
knowledge through a student organization will help you become a more well-rounded individual.

In addition, according to WH Magazine (2019), there are four great reasons you should
join a club in high school. Being in a club gets you involved with other people and builds the
necessary group work skills that you will need in both college and the work place. Second, club
activities look good on resumes and college applications. They open up scholarship opportunities
as well. Thirdly you get involved and make good friends. Fourth they can help you decide on a
college major which will set you on a career path early.
Republic of the Philippines

When you are part of a student organization, there are many soft skills that are developed
along the way. These people skills include things like work ethic, communication with team
members, and a positive attitude. These are important because they are things that employers are
going to look for later as an essential component of the right hire. When you are part of a student
organization, you get to learn a wide variety of these valuable skills and you also get to improve
upon some of the skills you may already have. Additionally, you will gain emotional intelligence
through your communication with various individuals and within groups developing these skills
and new relationships will take you far in life and are essential for success. (STEELE, 2017)

WH Magazine (2019) also said that becoming a part of a club means you become a part
of a larger interest community. This means people who are interested in the same thing as you all
get together to do something that everyone in that community has a passion for. This could be
farming, robotics, music, bowling, or many more. These are great places to make new friends
and be involved with the community. Being in a club can greatly boost your self-confidence and
academic performance. The greatest things about clubs, is that they give you a taste of what
many careers may contain. For example, if you are thinking engineering, you may want to join a
robotics team or join a computer technology group. Engineering has so many possibilities.
Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and more. In a simple
organization you can get a taste for what type of career you may want in the future. The same
applies for other clubs like writing clubs, psychology clubs, or drama clubs. Clubs are a hands-on
way to apply what you have learned on your own or in the classroom. This can greatly influence
the direction you take when you decide on a major in college.

Furthermore, Steele (2017) said that joining a student organization provides you with
ample opportunities to learn about who you are. You will get the opportunity to find out what
you like to do, develop your own personal goals, and work on your strengths. You will get a
chance to test your current knowledge of a subject as well as gain the opportunity to grow within
the organization. You will quickly find out what you like and what you do not like through
various organizations. High school is the time to begin exploring different student organizations
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Poblacion, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

so you can find out what interests you and what drives you forward. You will also learn more
about the skills you have and what you like to do with them. You will quickly learn if you can
multitask, if you are good at brainstorming, and more. By gaining this self-awareness, you will
be more confident moving towards college and your eventual career. One of the best benefits of
joining a student organization is getting the chance to have fun doing something that you like to
do. If you are not having fun within the organization, that is a sure sign that you are in the wrong
organization and that is ok. When you find the right one, you will be having a lot of fun and you
will not have to work as hard to excel within the group. Experimentation is part of the process
and you should keep trying different things until you find the one that brings you enjoyment.
When you do, the other students that are in the organization will become some of your closest
friends and will be there for you every step of the way. You will get the opportunity to make new
memories with these people and you will remember them and the experience for many years to
come as some of the best times of your life. WH Magazine (2019) added that if there are not
many clubs and organizations in your school, always feel free to start your own.

NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF CLUB ORGANIZATION

According Roland (2018), extracurricular activities can enhance a student’s school

experience in many ways. However, extracurricular activities have their negative aspects, too.
Students should be aware of the potential pitfalls of those activities to make sure their school
experience is as positive as possible. Exciting extracurricular activities are available for
elementary, middle and high school students. It can be tempting to sign up for everything, but
that may hurt your grades. Even teenagers often struggle with time management, and some
extracurricular activities demand more time and energy than many students can handle.

TEHN-OR-SELL (2015) also said that they had lost focus for the revision and priorities
on those clubs too much. When students spend most of their time with the club, they will not
have enough time to do their assignment or to review their lesson. So, they can’t get the good
credit because of their time management. Sometime when we join those activities, we will lose
our concentration on our study. When they keep focus on only one thing, they can perform well
with that thing. So, when they add the other thing in their mind such club or activity in the
school, they cannot perform that both things well.

The big disadvantage they do not have enough time to be with their family. As we know
that most of the students’ study from Monday to Saturday, so they have only a day to stay with
their family. What if they join the school’s club or activity on the weekend, so how can they have
enough time to be with the family? And this case also makes the gap between them and their
family further and further. Roland (2018) added that over involvement can lead to feelings of
anxiety, especially if competitive performance is demanded.

LOCAL LITERATURE

There are different extra-curricular activities for every university in the world. The
Philippines is no exception. (GATCHALIAN, 2015)

According to Briones (2015) “An active participant is someone who finds time, devotes,
and commits to extra-curricular activities.” He further adds that, involvement with extra-
curricular activities has taught him to be committed, involved, accountable, responsible, and
have a vision to both inspire and empower people. Aside from that he had also discovered skills
such as speaking in public, event organization and management, and team building facilitation.
While, Namuco (2015) contradicts that active participation exists not only in being physically
present but also by living the ideals and advocacy of an extra-curricular organization. Moreover,
she points out that inactive participation is unhealthy because a person is hindering their selves
from doing something, they are passionate about. In addition, in this current generation there is a
need for more doers rather than those dwadle waiting for something to take place.

PRAGATI INFOSOFT PVT. LTD., (2019) also illustrated that extracurricular activities
are important for working and for learning as well. We find parents telling and encouraging their
teens to study more and play less. All this is done in pursuit of a goal. The parents believe that
devoting quality time in studies would surely bring success in future. Life is all about having fun
and this option is for people who do not want to go for traditional career choice. It is for people
who want to try unconventional methods as profession. Thus, making extra-curricular activities,
such as dance, arts, acting, painting, singing, sports, cricket etc. can be your career choice.

PHILSTAR (2015) also states that extra-curricular activities (ECAs) are very important
in a student’s life. Unfortunately, since they are not graded and don’t form part of the QPI
(Qualitative Point Index) or GPA (General Point Average) which determines whether a student
can continue studying in his school, they are not the priority in a student’s survival in school.
Most of the time issues on extra-curricular activities are a staple in parent-child arguments,
“Your grades are not good enough! I think you should quit your org.” “But Ma! That’s what I
want to do, it’s the thing that makes me want to go to school!” For a family that’s barely making
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Poblacion, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

ends meet, it’s also the first to go as most extra-curricular activities require additional expenses.
So, the next time you get into that usual argument with your children about dropping out from
extra-curricular activities in order to “do well” in school, remember the above benefits. Have a
heart-to-heart talk with your children. Come up with agreements. Help them balance and
prioritize, in order to fulfil academic requirements and reap the rewards of extra-curricular
activities.

FOREIGN LITERATURE

According to, American School Health Association (2014), participation in

extracurricular activities can have positive effects on youth, with greater participation associated
with higher academic as well as better socio-emotional and behavioural outcomes. Little research
has examined differential effects of in-school and out-of-school activities.

This study examines in-school and out-of-school extracurricular activities for fourteen- to
seventeen-year-olds using a population-based sample of Canadian youth. Associations with
socio-emotional and academic outcomes, and having tried smoking, alcohol, and marijuana were
examined.

Weekly participation in both in-school and out-of-school activities were associated with
positive and negative outcomes. In particular, youth who participated in out-of-school activities
or in both in-school and out-of-school activities had better socio-emotional outcomes.

Academic outcomes were associated with in-school and out-of-school sports and no sport
activities. Youth who participated weekly in non-sport activities regardless of the context (in-
school or out-of-school) were less likely to have tried smoking, alcohol, or marijuana. However,
weekly participation in in-school sports was associated with an increased likelihood of failing a
course; youth who participated weekly in out-of-school sports were more likely to have tried
alcohol.

The findings suggest that participation in extracurricular activities, regardless of context,

encourage positive youth development. (American School Health Association, 2014) also,
Adachi-Mejia AM, et al. AcadPedia. (2014) said, youth involvement in extracurricular activities
may help prevent smoking and drinking initiation. However, the relative roles of types of
extracurricular activity on these risks are unclear. Therefore, we examined the association
between substance use and participation in team sports with a coach, other sports without a
coach, music, school clubs, and other clubs in a nationally representative sample of U.S. teens.
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Type of extracurricular involvement may be associated with risk of youth smoking and
drinking initiation. Future research should seek to better understand the underlying reasons
behind these differences.

The Surgeon General has called for an expansion of school-based extracurricular sports
programs to address the obesity epidemic. However, little is known about the availability of and
participation in high school extracurricular sports and how participation in these sports is related
to high-risk behaviors. ( Cohen DA, et al. J Sch Health ,2007)

Opportunities for participation in high school extracurricular sports are limited. Future
studies should test whether increased opportunities will increase physical activity and impact the
increasing overweight problem in youths.

RELATED STUDIES
Students who participate in extracurricular activities generally benefit fromany
opportunities afforded them. Benefits of participating in extracurricular activities included
having better grades, having higher standardized test scores and higher educational attainment,
attending school more regularly, and having higher a higher self-concept. When student's
engagement in extracurricular activities is balanced with academic learning, it may help them to
raise self-esteem, develop school spirit and connect with the adults in the community in a
positive manner creating a good situation for all. (Nikki Wilson, 2009)

According to Rehm (2014) his research was conducted in order to understand the impact
of a student organization on leadership skills and identity development of student leaders based
on their perception of their involvement in a student organization. As we know, today developing
leadership skills are becoming an important issue in schools, especially among students. Many
leadership educators agree that leadership skills should be learned as early as possible.

Cooper et al. (1994) explained that students who participate in student organizations have
more tendency of gaining more skills and knowledge than those who do not participate.

In addition, previous study also suggested that involvement in student organizations and
clubs has been shown to relate positively with psychosocial development. Specifically,
participants of student organizations ranked higher than non-participants (Fourbert& Grainger,
2006).

Although adolescents often participate in multiple extracurricular activities, little research

has examined how the breadth of activities in which an adolescent is involved relates to school-
related affect and academic performance. Relying on a large, multi-ethnic sample (N = 864;
55.9% female), the current study investigated linear and non-linear relationships of eleventh
grade activity participation in four activity domains (academic/leadership groups, arts activities,
clubs, and sports) to adolescents’ sense of belonging at school, academic engagement, and grade
point average, contemporarily and in twelfth grade. Results of multiple regression models
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Poblacion, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

revealed curvilinear relationships for sense of belonging at school in eleventh and twelfth grade,
grade point average in eleventh grade, and academic engagement in twelfth grade. Adolescents
who were moderately involved (i.e., in two domains) reported a greater sense of belonging at
school in eleventh and twelfth grade, a higher grade point average in eleventh grade, and greater
academic engagement in twelfth grade, relative to those who were more or less involved.
Furthermore, adolescents’ sense of belonging at school in eleventh grade mediated the
relationship of domain participation in eleventh grade to academic engagement in twelfth grade.
This study suggests that involvement in a moderate number of activity domains promotes
positive school-related affect and greater academic performance. (A Knifsend and Sandra
Graham, 2012)

Dick (2010) conducted a study to detect the relationship between participation in the
extracurricular activities on the student achievement and attendance in school, and their
behaviour inside and outside the school. The study used the methodology of the case study in
data collection, where it was noted the students behaviour in high school from the western region
of Nebraska. This study used note card to achieve the objectives of the study. The results pointed
that there is a lack of statistically significant correlation between cumulative grade point average
for students who participated in the activities, which are not systematic and the cumulative grade
point average for students who participated in sporting activities in general. Besides, there is a
lack of correlation between the presences of all the students who participated in sports activities.
As well as, there is a lack of correlation between participation in extracurricular activities and the
improvement of the school discipline and the behaviour among involved students.

Student’s life is full of ups and downs. Being a student is already a challenge, but one
should also consider joining and participating in various after school activities. This will help
you grow not only as a student but also as an individual.

PREAMBLE PART I
The purpose of this phenomenological research is to describe the self-improvement of
grade twelve students in Bulacan Standard Academy by joining Clubs and Organizations. The
research questions include how does participating in school clubs make an improvement to the
grade twelve students of Bulacan Standard Academy and how do the Grade 12 students in
Bulacan Standard Academy handle the problems of being a club member.

PREAMBLE PART II

The researchers will address the statement of the problem and research questions by
using the four different types of data collection of techniques: interview, observation, documents,
and audiovisual materials. From the data being gathered, the researchers will be able to describe
how the students improve themselves with the challenge of proper time management and
compare the change of personality before and after joining clubs and organization.

RESEARCH DESIGN/ METHOD

The kind of qualitative research used in this study is Phenomenology. The researchers
chose it to know the commonalities between the students who join clubs and organizations rather
than focusing on their unique characteristics. By this, researchers will be able to know the
similarities of the students by direct investigation and description.

DATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUES

The researchers approached the respective respondents in this study. For formality,
formal letters were distributed that indicate how the researchers will be able to interview them in
terms of handing them the questionnaires, and by recording their answers. It is to also know
when they are available for comfortable interviewing.

The researchers handed them hard copy of the questionnaires that they need to answer
based on their own experiences on joining clubs and organizations. The respondents were
interviewed by asking them the sub-questions and follow-up questions that the researchers
prepared based on the questionnaires that were handed out. While the interview was ongoing, the
answers that they gave out are being recorded to our mobile phones to be used as evidence.

When the research begun, the researchers went ahead and started observing the
performances of the respondents on their clubs and organizations which they belong to. The
researchers came up with this research for the reason that there are many students who are
actively performing to their clubs and organizations. And lastly, observing the respondents in
their classrooms took place and of course the researchers asked for permission from the teacher
in-charge to conduct this research.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS/ INSTRUMENTATIONS

Twenty Grade 12 club members were interviewed and observed. The interview questions
were aimed at eliciting relevant information concerning their improvements after joining their
respective clubs.

The researchers also observed the behavior and performance of the chosen respondents.
And by observing they can point out there if not accurate effects of them joining their different
clubs.

A questionnaire designed by the researchers was also used in the study. The content of
the questionnaire was based on the general questions on the statement of the problem, as well as
the information from the literature reviewed. It consists of two different topics:

 1-5 is about how joining clubs changed you and does it affect your relationship
with others.
 While 6-10 is more on why you keep pursuing your clubs despite the
adjustments needed to be done.

The questionnaire was semi structured and the answers will be based on the respondent's
own experience and opinion.

RESEARCH INFORMANT / SAMPLES

In conducting this research, the researchers have come up in choosing Grade 12 students.
The sample of the population of this study happens to be 7 boys and 13 girls for equivalent of 20
grade 12 students in Bulacan Standard Academy.

As the researchers reviewed their samples, they can tell that they are very competent and
skillful with their performances in their class. With the ages of 17 to 18, they are known to be
independent teenagers to make decisions and handling some activities. In this age you can see
how matured are these students, that's why researchers have come up to choose them as
respondents in this study.

Furthermore, researchers perceived that the Grade 12 students are very proficient in
doing their responsibilities as a student and a member of different clubs and organizations.

PILOT TEST

The researchers chose samples or the students who joins different club/s in grade twelve
level in Bulacan Standard Academy for some reasons. Some of them are in the club for a long
time and some have more than one club.

The first trial for data collection used observation and documents. The samples are
observed inside their room with the way they socialize, and in the club they are into. There
answers were analyzed in the given ten questionnaires. The second trial used is through
interview and audiovisual material. They actively answer the questions given on the interview
even if there is a camera to record it as evidence.

There are differences on the answers of the respondents on the first trial and second trial
because they tend to elaborate more their answers as they can express more their own feelings
and share their stories related to the questionnaires given than their written answers. Both trials
come up with the data that helps to answer the research question as the respondents answer it
honestly.

DATA ANALYSIS

Data is the heart of a research. Analyzing data would be the hardest but the most
important part. Well- analyzed data is a great factor of having a successful research. While
examining false data is a tough challenge to the researchers.

In gathering the data, the researchers used the different types of data collection
techniques. The first method is through observation, the data gathered were analyzed because of
information’s that being listed while the observation is ongoing. Then, the survey questionnaires
are given to the selected samples where in the research questions were stated. All answers from
each of them were read and analyzed carefully by the researchers.

Lastly is having an interview with the respondents where in the researchers used audio
visual materials to record all the things they had said.

Reading the samples' answers from the questionnaire and listening to the audio recorded
gave a hard time to the researchers since some of their answers in the survey questionnaire
contradict to their answers on the follow up questions during the interview.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATION

The researchers considered the people and setting to avoid risk of harming them. Nicely
asking permission from the respondents through formal letter is done which indicates the
assurance of preserving the privacy and confidentiality of them.

Assurance is being given that the data that is gathered will be easy to be accessed by a
person who needs it for some reasons, academically or not. The answers and conclusions that are
taken from them are still the answers they will put in the research without being twisted.
Deception is avoided in the methodology.

The data and the results that are collected are all fruits of interviews, observations,
searching of documents and gathering audiovisual evidences. Ensures that they will report all
correct and accurate data they've gathered during methodology. Respecting all the respondent’s
answers and conclusions about their improvement are being implied. The researchers also
respect their beliefs and their different point of views in life. In conclusion, the researchers
applied ethics in their research.

RESEARCHER’S POSITION

The researcher’s humble opinion on conducting the research was the effect on the
student’s performance while they are joining clubs and organization. The effect was in both
negative and positive sides. The researchers encounter differences in different students and also
the commonalities of students are being observed. While the researchers interviewed the
students, they observed the similarities of every informant like for example when the students
answered every question, they are agreed to each others. Also, the researchers notice that every
respondent are experiencing both enjoyment and difficulties in facing or doing their tasks in their
clubs and organizations and at the same time on their tasks in the classroom. There are times that
the respondents are not able to attend classes because of the tasks in their clubs and
organizations. In this situation decision making is needed. Students need to choose which is more
important to do. On the other hand, there are also times that the respondent notices that their self-
confidence is increasing because of the foundation that they get from their clubs and
organizations. They tend to be more sociable to their schoolmates, teachers, and also to the
people that they able to interact outside the campus. Respondents perhaps are becoming a role
model to their fellow students.

Decision Making is such a difficult thing to the Grade 12 students who are also club
members of Bulacan Standard Academy. Each day they face situations which require them to
make a choice. Some of these choices are easy, and at times, some of them can be difficult.
According to the answers of respondents number fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen,
and twenty being club and organization member helped them to make decisions wisely, they

The respondents in this study said that aside of being a club member they also need to be
a wise decision maker. Decisions can vary so obviously from one situation to the next, the
experience they gained from making one important decision is often times of little or no use
when another decision-making problem arises, so in making their choices they always think
carefully first.

Making good decisions is a method that everyone must learned. It is not something with
which we are innately born, but a step by step process that is usually ascertained from our life
experiences. But bad decisions are inevitable, so all of must be always ready for the
consequences of our choice.

two clubs or more and into the club/s for few years. The respondents have different ways on
how they handle their time, some is adjusting few activities to do the other but also some is
doing tasks early so that they will not procrastinate. They also prioritize their studies but still
performs well in their club.

didn't affect when they join the clubs and organization. Because they handle their time in joining
in it and in studying. But the other students said that there's an effect in their academic
performance like what the sample number one said that she receives an incentives from it. It will
help them too in their academic because there are many lessons to learn from it. As the
researchers saw that either it affects or not in academic performance both are positive.

including ourselves in different activities can help us to refresh our mind. The more we introduce
ourselves in healthy and beneficial activities, the more chances of having a great emotional
health.

6. Researchers conclude that the time management is very important to everyone.

Students, adults and others should practice to improve their skills in making a wise time
management. Especially for those students who join in different club organizations, they must
equalize their time whereas they do their responsibilities in their clubs and still they need to
pursue the requirements of their subject teachers.

7. The researchers conclude that with proper practice of time management you can handle
time between studies and performing in club. With time management it may help you do your
task not just in studies but also in club you're into. Even if you're into more than one club but
because of time management you can still have time for yourself, family and friends. Handling
time between the two is maybe really hard but with willingness to excel in both, you can do it.
Therefore, clubs are not a distraction but an improvement in self aspect of a student.

inevitable when you join club and organization. Time Management is a great factor that affects
the performance of each student and club member as well. If time was not handled well, that's
when conflicts arise.

10. Based on the information’s that the researchers have gathered, most of the samples
reason out that they still continue pursuing their clubs for the experience, and also it forge them
to be ready for their future careers. Clubs and organization enhance their skills, and expands their
thinking and interests.

RECOMMENDATION

1. The researchers recommend that students may consider joining a school club because it
has a good impact on self aspect of a student. Happiness, confidence, and time management is
the common thing that will improve but it is also the big things that will surely make a student
more of himself/herself now. Self improvement in joining school club and organization also
involves having good relationship of a student to others inside and outside the club.

To parents, they should also push and support their children whenever they join clubs to
really help their children nourish one's talents and skills, and also the respondents' increased their
level of confidence and happiness because of their co-club members.

To teachers, they must help every student that joins clubs to enhance their skills and
boost one's confidence. Allow every student to really participate in clubs due to good effects of
this to them.

To administration, the researchers recommend to really give importance and support to

every club financially or not.

To the youth, in this generation leisure might be so useful to them. Youth are so
aggressive nowadays, they act so unpredictable and sometimes it affects their behavior and
sometimes their own lifestyle. The researchers recommend to them that they must try different
worlds, different activities and different cultures. They must also think of the positive things that
really might happen when they join clubs.
Republic of the Philippines

Bulacan Standard Academy

Poblacion, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

2. The researchers recommend that students should also think of building relationship in a
club not just performing in it. Having harmonious relationship with others will also be a great
help for a student to perform well as they were comfortable and confident in their social circle
where they gain some support.

3. Researchers recommend that everyone should give importance and focus on the self-
confidence of one another. Because self-confidence can make each other improve themselves in
a positive and negative way. But it is way better if they will boost their self-confidence so that
they can assure to their selves that all the tasks that they do will have a good result and a good
comment from the people around them. Parents or family should also be the one to help a student
or an individual in boosting their confidence as they were also the primary source of love and
support.

4. Since the involvement in clubs and organizations improves our skill, therefore, the
researchers recommend expanding or widening your thoughts to make a better resolution. It is
very important for every students and adults. Don’t waste time, accomplish what you need to
accomplish, don't disregard responsibilities, set your priorities to make a prosperous decision
making.

5. Researchers recommend everyone to open themselves in activities that can benefit

your living as a student and or adult. We all must follow your interest and do our passions. Don't
be discouraged when life gets uneasy. Every conflict has their own solution and it is up to those
people choose their ways.

6. Furthermore, researchers recommend the students, adults and others to always do their
task in time. Everyone should apply themselves the knowledge in composting a stability of
schedule. Be creative and set goals in order to accomplish a successful schedule.

7. The researchers recommend that students may practice time management during early
ages or when thinking of joining a school club and organization. Joining club and organization
will help an individual to be responsible and more discipline with his/her time. Club moderators
or advisors may help with this problem by adjusting some practices for students who have a load
