Title Installation of Structural Steel for the sports hall
2 Description
Location of Work Sports Hall Slab
Start Date 22/08/2013 Duration 8 days
Sequence Of Work
Operatives to be booked in prior to the works taking place
Delivery arrives at the main entrance via HIAB lorry
Materials to be offloaded using the HIAB and lifted using the site crane if feasible on to the slab
Alternatively the steel will be boomed up using a sufficient HIAB
A cordoned area will be set up around the slab whilst erection is taking place
The works will be carried out in normal working hours
The delivery will arrive at the main entrance and will be off loaded and materials and tools will be taken to the work
area.
The operatives will cordon off the immediate work area when lifting is taking place and a Koyda operative will patrol
this exclusion zone.
Lifting will take place using a mobile spider crane, which will be lifted in to position using the BAM site crane. This will
be used to erect the remainder of the steelwork.
The positions and loads applied by the outriggers of the crane will be marked up on a drawing and then transferred to
site using a spray mark. This will then denote the position of the back propping by others. In order to establish the
capacity of the slab we will require information from BAM.
Roof steels will be delivered to site and craned up on to slab. These sections will then be manoeuvred on the slab to
the appropriate lifting site for the erection. Once positioned the crane will be tracked into position and the steel will be
slung by the banks man ready for lifting.
Once ready the banks man will take the strain of the load to insure that it is secure under load and proceed with the
lift, gently manoeuvring the steel into position.
The erectors will use podgers and spanners followed by a nut runner (110V) to secure the bolts.
The remainder of the steel will be installed using the same methods until the structure is complete and ready for the
installation of the Rib Deck.
The rib deck pallets will be slung from the lorry using 2 1 ton slings and taken directly to the slab. The Spider crane
will lift the sheets onto the appropriate positions and operatives will access the decking using MEWP’s Safety netting
will also be used to protect agenised falling from heights
The shear studs will be installed using the appropriate welding equipment from on top of the rib decking and all edges
will be protected using span sets. Operatives will be attached to the span sets locally to their work area to provide a
secondary means of fall arrest.
Once the decking is complete and after every shift operatives will insure that the working area is left clear and tidy and
safe for other operatives to work in.
Following the completion, the sign off process will take place and bolts will be checked for correct torque and paint
touched up. These sheets will be made available to BAM for their signoff process.

heavier items it is preferred that no operative singularly lifts more than 25kgs.
Working At Heights and Fall of Materials: ensure that operatives are briefed on the use of scaffolds and access towers. Ensure
all towers are erected properly and used in accordance with the manufactures guidelines. If it is appropriate an exclusion zone to be
used below the work area. Tower to be erected by PASMA certified operatives only.
Use of Hand Tools: All hand held equipment is to be kept within the toe board and edge protection. Hand Arm vibration limits are to
be adhered to and recorded if necessary.
