RCD Pile

(1) The document discusses the use of reverse circulation drill (RCD) piles for Project LRT Line 3. (2) RCD piling involves drilling a pile shaft using a drilling rig while circulating drilling fluid to remove cut soil. (3) Benefits of RCD piles include limiting construction disturbance and noise, controlling excavated soil, and obtaining better pile quality. (4) The presentation outlines the RCD piling process and provides examples of past projects where RCD piles were successfully used.

PROJECT LRT LINE 3

TECHNICAL & METHOD STATEMENT PRESENTATION

FOR
REVERSE CIRCULATION DRILL (RCD) PILE

Piling Contractor : GEOFORCE EAST SDN BHD

1.0 INTRODUCTION

What is Reverse Circulation Drill (RCD) method?

Benefit of RCD Pile
1.0 Introduction
What Is RCD Pile?

RCD method provides a continuity drilling with extension 3.0m drill rod at every
stage of drilling work
Soilslurry will be sucked up through the rod where the suction force being
produce by the suction pump mounted on the RCD rig
Slurry is then discharge into siltation tank provided on site for segregation of
the soil and water
Water is then discharged back into the bored shaft and drilling work shall carry
on by circulation of the water
1.0 Introduction (con’t)
✓ Benefit of RCD Pile

 Good for limitation of construction space

 High water table level would potentially delay if using caisson method
 No vibration compared to other drilling method
 Free of sound disturbance
 Better control of excavated soil within the siltation pond
 Better choice for big diameter and deep boring pile
 Less disturbance to bored pile wall and provide better skin friction
 Better pile verticality can be obtained
