New internationalisation centre launched at Leeds Metropolitan

Leeds Metropolitan has launched a new research centre which aims to

develop an agenda for future research and practice in the internationalisation
of Higher Education. The Centre for Academic Practice & Research in
Internationalisation (CAPRI) aims to revolutionise thinking in the field of
internationalisation by establishing community and practice in pursuit of a new
research and practice agenda.

Dr Viv Caruana, Reader in Internationalisation and joint Director of CAPRI at

Leeds Metropolitan said: “Over the last 10 years internationalisation has
become a key agenda in HE and a key concept in the student learning
experience right across the globe. There's a tremendous amount of good
work going on out there. The inaugural symposium of CAPRI is significant in
representing the first step in consolidating that work, making it accessible and
broadening and deepening it through sustained collaboration. “

As suggested by the Higher Education Academy commissioned report,

Internationalisation of UK Higher Education: a review of selected material, the
last ten years has seen an unprecedented burst of activity in the field of
internationalisation. In light of this, CAPRI’s launch event entitled Ten Year’s
On: Critical issues in the Internationalisation of Higher Education brought
together renowned leading researchers and practitioners in the field to
establish an agenda which supports future developments in the area.
Participants were able to contribute to the future direction in both research
and practice and consider how CAPRI can support colleagues in taking this
research agenda forward. It also opened up opportunities for participants to
contribute to research and publications, including a book series on
internationalisation.

Leeds Metropolitan is proactive in the arena of internationalisation research.

Our University’s International Volunteering initiative encourages students and
staff to partake in local community development volunteering projects both
overseas and in the UK. Leeds Metropolitan also has an active and
successful Study Abroad scheme collaborating with many university partners
across the globe.
