Lesson Plan and Classroom Management

The document discusses feedback and its impact on learning and achievement. It provides a conceptual analysis of feedback and reviews evidence that feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning, but its effectiveness depends on how it is given. A model is proposed that identifies properties and circumstances that make feedback effective, such as the timing of feedback and the impact of positive versus negative feedback. The analysis suggests ways feedback can be used more effectively in classrooms to enhance learning.

Abstract

Feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement. Its power
is frequently mentioned in articles about learning and teaching, but surprisingly few recent
studies have systematically investigated its meaning. In addition, feedback has two type, there
are verbal and non-verbal. In This journal provides a conceptual analysis of feedback and
reviews the evidence related to its impact on learning achievement. This evidence shows that
although feedback is among the major of influence, the power of feedback for students in
education, the way it is given can be differentially effective. A model of feedback is then
proposed that identifies the particular properties and circumstances that make it effective, and
some typically thorny issues are discussed, including the timing of feedback and the effect of
positive and negative feedback. Finally, this analysis is used to suggest ways in which feedback
can be used to enhance its effectiveness in classrooms.

Keyword: feedback, and teaching learning.

Introduction

The important role of feedback is to assist the development of student learning processes.
Feedback is needed to help students understand what material has been taught by the teacher and
also students can improve the quality of understanding in learning in the classroom. . In Hattie &
Timperley's book The Power of Feedback, to assist in understanding the purpose, effects, and
types of feedback, it is useful to consider a continuum of instruction and feedback. At one end of
the continuum is a clear distinction between providing instruction and providing feedback.
However, when feedback is combined with more a correctional review, the feedback and
instruction become intertwined until "the process itself takes on the forms of new instruction,
rather than informing the student solely about correctness" (Kulhavy, 1977, p. 212).
The research is clear: improving feedback practices can significantly improve student learning
and the quality of teaching in classrooms. The effective feedback practices, provide the bridge
between assessment and learning. High quality feedback can improve student learning by as
much as eight months. There’s a strong evidence base behind the impact of feedback. It is a cost-
effective approach to enhancing student outcomes and it can be implemented in any education
context.

Discussion

Definition of Feedback

Education without a teacher like a body without soul, a skeleton without flesh and blood, a
shadow without substance. Similarly, teaching without feedback is unimaginable. Feedback is
pedagogical framework of assessment, for learning not of learning (Black et al., 2014), that
promotes students engagement and learning (Black &William, 2009). Feedback in context of
teacher education has been defined as information that is presented to an individual following
performance that reflect upon the adequacy, quantity and quality of teaching performance
(Tower, 1999). Feedback provides information about the truth of falsehood of human behavior,
as well as providing student teachers with a means to improve their own teaching performance
and to correct their errors (Paccapaniccia, 2002). Taking these interpretations into account, it can
be said that feedback serves as a door for student teachers to open in order to obtain a variety of
data about themselves through their own eyes and through the eyes of others. In essence,
feedback involves making the experiences and actions of student teachers visible and
comprehensible.
