Six Types of Social Science

 Anthropology: “the science of humanity,” which studies human


beings in aspects ranging from the biology and evolutionary history
of Homo sapiens to the features of society and culture that
decisively distinguish humans from other animal species. Physical
anthropology is the branch that concentrates on the biology and
evolution of humanity.

4 Types Of Anthropology:
 Archaeology: Archaeologists study human culture by analyzing the
objects people have made.
 Biological Anthropology: Biological anthropologists seek to
understand how humans adapt to different environments, what
causes disease and early death, and how humans evolved from other
animals.
 Cultural Anthropology: Sociocultural anthropologists explore how
people in different places live and understand the world around
them.
 Linguistic Anthropology: Linguistic anthropologists study the many
ways people communicate across the globe.

 Geography: is the study of places and the relationships between


people and their environments. Geographers explore both the
physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies
spread across it.
Physical Geography
Physical geography is the study of Earth’s seasons, climate, atmosphere, soil,
streams, landforms, and oceans.
Human Geography
Human geography is the study of the distribution of networks of people and
cultures on Earth’s surface.

 Economics: is “a study of mankind in the ordinary business of


life; it examines that part of individual and social action which is
most closely connected with the attainment, and with the use of the
material requisites of wellbeing”—ignoring the fact that
sociologists, psychologists, and anthropologists frequently study
exactly the same phenomena.

Economics can be broken down into two main disciplines: macroeconomics


and microeconomics. Macroeconomics deals with the behavior of
economies on a large scale, usually the economies of countries or regions.
Microeconomics, on the other hand, usually addresses individual agents.

 Political science focuses on the theory and practice of


government and politics at the local, state, national, and
international levels. They are dedicated to developing
understandings of institutions, practices, and relations that constitute
public life and modes of inquiry that promote citizenship.

Political Science example is the research done in comparing and


contrasting the current president with all the presidents who came before.
Analyzing all the data, and theories, for instance: their policies applications,
knowledge and understanding of government and governing.
 Sociology: a social science that studies human societies, their
interactions, and the processes that preserve and change them. It
does this by examining the dynamics of constituent parts of
societies such as institutions, communities, populations, and gender,
racial, or age groups.

Our interaction whether it is face to face or not, our relationships etc are the
examples of Sociology. What we do in the society how we intearct with each
other, how we follow culture, how we dress and eat all falls in the category of
Sociology.

 Psychology: is the scientific study of the mind and behavior,


according to the American Psychological Association. Psychology
is a multifaceted discipline and includes many sub-fields of study
such areas as human development, sports, health, clinical, social
behavior and cognitive processes.

There are different types of psychology, such as cognitive, forensic, social,


and developmental psychology. A person with a condition that affects their
mental health may benefit from assessment and treatment with a psychologist.
A psychologist may offer treatment that focuses on behavioral adaptations.
