Proposed Title HISTORY OF PHILIPPINE ANIMATION INDUSTRY


Abstract

Animation generally refers to the process of setting inanimate objects in

motion. It is broadly categorize into three forms namely 2D animation, 3D Computer

Generated Imagery (CGI) and 3D Motion Capture.

Animation industry in the Philippines particularly begin one of the faster growing

type of outsource work. The Philippines has long been engaging into this industry which

can betrace as early as the 1980’s.

Original Filipino start with the publication of the first animated book in the

Philippines known as komiks. During the late 1920s, animation start to grow continuously

until it became well known.

In 1980’s the first Filipino made animated show for television was Panday create by

Gerry Garcia base on the comic book character with the same name produce by Carlo J.

Caparas and began airing in November 1986.

Chapter 1 – Introduction

Animation deals with the rapid display of sequence images to produce an illusion of
movement. Animation along with Information Technology has evolve through time from

traditional animation into 2d animation, 3d computer generated imagery (CGI), and 3d

Motion Capture, and later into virtual reality. These developments had lead and contributes

to the country’s growth given the revenues generated and increase in employment rate.

This research aims to know the history Philippine Animation Industry, by using the

contribution of the previous animators in the Philippines, to clear out how animation start in

the Philippines and to motivate current and future animators in the Philippines. This studies

the events of the past animation produce in the Philippines.

Statement of the Problem


This research aimed to determine how the animation began in the Philippines.

Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

1. What are the techniques use by the animators from past to present?

2. What are the technologies use by animators from past to present?

3. How did Filipino animators contribute to the success of the Philippine Animation?

Purpose/Objective of the Study

The general objective of this study is to determine how the animation starts in the

Philippines.

Specifically, this study aims to:

1. determine the techniques use by the animators from past to present.

2. determine the technologies use by the animators from past to present.

3. determine how Filipino animators contribute to the success of the Philippine Animation.

Significance of the Study


This study will give a description on how animation starts in the Philippines.

The history of Philippine animation will be studied and the result will be a helpful

tool to better understand how animation start and grow in the Philippines. The study will

investigate what are the factors that will be affected. This study may also be helpful for

the present and future study in animation. This may also give information on how

animation grow and start until now.

It will be most beneficial to the following sectors:

Animation Students. This study will help them understand the history of animation and

serve as a guide to help them be better animators in the future.

Future Researchers. This study could help them as one of their reference when conducting

a study related in this study. This can also be a guide to other researchers to improve their

understanding in the history of Philippine animation industry.

Animators. This study will help the animators on understanding ng the history of animation

in the Philippines and give them a motivation to animate in the Philippine.

Philippine Animation Industry. This study will help the animation industry in the

Philippines to introduce animation to the Filipino people.

Scope and Limitation

This research was conducted to determine the history of Philippine Animation.

The scope of this study is only in the Philippines. This study limited only to the animators and

future animators for them to know history of animation, to encourage, and to give them some

knowledge regarding the techniques and technologies use of the past and present animation.

Conceptual Framework
Definition of Terms

History-It is the whole series of past events of how the animation emerge in the Philippines

Animators- An artist who produces animation from drawings, objects of computer models.

Philippine Animation Industry- It is a body of original cultural and artistic works and

styles applied to conventional Filipino storytelling, combined with talent and the

appropriate application of classic animation principles, methods, and techniques, which

recognizes their relationship with Filipino culture, comics, and films.

2d Animation- It is a type of animation that shows two dimensional animation/drawn

animation.

3d Animation- It is a type of animation that shows three dimensional animation. It is more

realistic than 2d animation.
