Introduction
New Features:
Releases in bold italic have been specifically tested, others, although not specifically tested, are assumed to
work by association.
Note:
• The use of backplane only ethernet traffic in a protected configuration is not recommended.
Using a protected 1+1 RAC70 set up configured to use ethernet backplane traffic, a 2-15second traffic
hit may be expected after a TX switch. This situation is seen up to 50% of the time. Workaround is to
configure only DPP traffic.
• RAC70 + PE: It is essential that no profile change is made when Payload Encryption is enabled. If a
change of profile is required (channel bandwidth change) PE must first be disabled. After the change
it can be enabled again. If a profile change is made while PE is enabled the radio will freeze and will
need a power cycle to restore operation. Do not use remote configuration to select a new profile at the
far end, deploy a technician at either end of the link to make the profile change, with PE disabled, then
enable PE again at both ends.
• CF Flash Size: Note this software requires a 512Mb or larger CF to be installed
Compatibility Matrix
Feature 08.00.72 08.01.20 08.02.18 08.03.21 08.03.44 08.04.40 08.05.08
Please contact Aviat Technical Support if validation is required for direct upgrade from earlier software versions
to this release.
Windows 10 Operation
If using Windows 10 and using IPv6 addresses and connecting directly to the NCC, the PC / Laptop will not get
a IP address.
If the current software is 8.0 and is being upgraded to this release, note that the DHCP netmask configuration will be
lost. This may cause connectivity issues with PCs connected to an Eclipse front panel NMS port in the case where the
Eclipse terminal is configured as a DHCP server. The workaround to correct this fault is to upgrade to 08.01.20 or later

and reconfigure the network Ethernet address and mask in Portal. This problem does not exist on releases prior to
8.0. Upgrading from 8.0 to any later release does not affect traffic or network settings. This problem was addressed in
the 08.01.20 release.
ProVision Support - This release is supported by ProVision Element Manager System software version 7.7.0
Note earlier versions will also function, but if any new features are added such as new alarms these will not
show.

Eclipse RAC70 Profile Report
All profiles can be used statically PE(static and ACM) and G8262 is available on all profiles
Note Using 2xSTM1+E1 profile, it is possible to carry 1xOC3/1xSTM-1 and 155Mbps of Ethernet traffic via the DPP
Configuration not allowed: Two 1x STM1+1E1 parallel links, will result in a loss of NMS and wayside down on one
link. Applies to 1xOC3 configurations as well
Blocked Profiles
Known Issues
The following table lists known issues that have not been fixed in this release. Blue added for this release
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
ES-25295
Strong Security users please note. The following four OpenSSL ciphers are now seen as
less secure than when first released and are therefore recommended not to be used:
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
DAC GE3 Protected: After sw upgrade from 07.03.56 to 08.01.19/.20, Portal shows
"Error Merging values, Primary & Secondary do not match" in OAM tab.
Sometimes after a software upgrade, Portal may show the message "Error merging
ES-24201
values, Primary and Secondary do not match" in the OAM tab of the DAC plugin.
Workaround: To eliminate this phantom error, untick and tick the Ports in the OAM tab
without clicking the 'Send' button.
DAC GE3 : Switching times can exceed 1 second when testing protection switching using
ES-25625
a Y Cable and pulling the on-line feed. Single feed gives superior results
DAC GE3 : Increased on-line traffic switching times when DAC GE3 port speed is set to
ES-25576
Auto, use fixed rates if possible as they are faster
IRU600V3 :Possible to experience more than 1 second switching time on first Protection
Switch after reboot (RIPS, ODU Failure, Tx Manual Switch, Tx Mute). For subsequent
ES-25493 switches, it switches less than 200mS. Note only seen after a reboot or power up.
Workaround is to force an initial switch if possible after a reboot or power cycle. Possible
fix planned.

White Paper
DAC GE3 Longer than expected protection switching times and possible traffic hit when
DAC GE3 port speed set to Auto.
ES-25576
Workaround: Protection switching times are improved if a fixed throughput is selected as
opposed to auto-negotiation
NCC Watchdog reset possible when experiencing an Ethernet loop on the NCC NMS
ES-26053 port. Broadcast storm hardening improvements planned in 8.4 should fix this problem.
Workaround is to avoid Ethernet loops
NCM Y cable configuration, hot plugging the off-line NCM causes a momentary hit on the
ES-26286
NCM's tributary port
SyncE Ring direction change across an RF path causes traffic hit on the DPP link.
ES-26318
workaround is to use EDSe for one direction and ART for the other
RAC 70: Changing profiles while modulator loopback is enabled results in an invalid
ES-26341 "Modulator not locked" alarm. Removing the loopback and re-enabling it results in an
alarm-free operation.
RAC70/RAC60 configured with an ODU600 protected link occasionally (<10%) fails to
ES-26111
unmute after a transmit switch. This triggers a slow RIPs switch about 2 seconds later.
RAC 70 Silent Transmitter failure alarm keeps flashing on online RAC 70 when offline
RAC 70 is unplugged in 1+1 setup. No frames drops observed. RSL/Tx power values are
ES-26139 good and no RF leakage observed.
System goes back to normal state with green alarms when the offline RAC 70 is plugged
in back in.
Space Diversity (Secondary Muted): It is possible to unmute Secondary RAC when
manually locking Rx to Secondary in Portal. Only occurs when DPP is enabled.
ES-26344
Workaround: Do not lock RX on line to secondary with DPP enabled on a Space Diversity
link. This Portal switch will be greyed out on the next GA release.
RAC 70: In Art mode Auto, clock direction switching may cause a permanent DNL at one
ES-26365 or both ends of the link
Workaround use EDSe for one direction and ART for the other
ES-26576 Windows 10 PC does not get an IPv6 ip address when connecting directly to NCC
ES-26691 DAC 4x: Using STM1+1E1 wayside profile, shows Not Supported alarm plus an
incompatible bus size message. Do not use 1 x STM1+E1 or 2 x STM1+E1 Profile with
this release. Issue not present in 08.02 or earlier releases.
ES-26683 DAC 4X: Loss of NMS and wayside, sometimes, do not use 1 x STM1+E1 or 2 x
STM1+E1 Profile with this release. Issue not present in 08.02 or earlier releases.
ES-26697 DAC 16xV3: Radio facing Loopback for DAC 16xV3 does not work when used as a drop
circuit to NCM
ES-26698 NCM: Enabling loopback from Circuit Loopbacks page does not work with the NCM card
configured
ES-26849 FIPS OSPF Authentication: Normal OSPF (no authentication) functions as normal , but
the authentication mode (with MD5 hashing) does not work. This is not a FIPS / UC-APL
requirement
ES-26837 FIPS: “Failed to contact time server” error displays when using SNTP authentication
On a FIPS enabled terminal with SNTP authentication enabled, date/time cannot sync to
SNTP server. Will be investigated for a fix in a future build.
ES-26811 FIPS: Eclipse prompts user to login in twice after a Portal timeout, no effect on the system
or security, minor annoyance to be fixed in a future release
ES-26802 FIPS: The informational alarm "Exclusive Cipher Text" is not raised in the informational
log, after FIPS and PE is enabled. Minor severity to be investigated in a future release
ES-26898 IRU600V4 and 600v2 : Firmware upgrade are not hitless – traffic hits are seen while the
FPGA loads. Organize software upgrades in periods of low traffic.
ES-26591 For RAC70 with L1LA configured when one end of the link is running 08.03.xx and the
other 08.04.32 and later traffic will be lost. Traffic will recover once both ends of the link
are running 08.04.32 or later.
ES-26393 RAC70 Demodulator not locked on the Rx path of RAC70 after configuration restore
After a configuration restore, occasionally RAC 70 cards with ART enabled may be stuck
with a demodulator in a not locked condition. The workaround is to set ART OFF and then
set ART back ON. Traffic will resume, and the alarms will clear.
ES-27016 RAC 70/RAC 60: PE usage while DPP is oversubscribed can cause a long DPP outage.
To recover from this condition, reduce the DPP load so it is not oversubscribed, or at the
affected RAC, perform a Demod unlock/lock.
ES-27054 ODU600v2: NMS connection goes down after connecting ODU600v2 if a firmware load is
initiated
1 to 2 minutes after a firmware update the NMS will go down. Portal shows Unknown
ODU on RAC object page.
After approximately 15 minutes, NMS connection is restored, and Portal will show
ODU600v2 on the RAC objects page. ODU600v2 has a firmware file 10x larger than
ODU600v1 and subsequently takes longer to load and affects other Eclipse functions.
Subsequent connections of a ODU600v2 with firmware equal or higher than the version in
the embedded SW will connect within a few seconds as expected.
ES-26867 RAC 70: 1+1 - (w/ DPP disabled) Single near-end RX fading causes a false far-end Silent
Tx Failure alarm & switching. In 1+1 mode, when NOT using DPP (just backplane
Ethernet or TDM or both), there is a situation that results in the remote (Far-End) Online
TX to have a FALSE Silent Tx Failure alarm. The silent TX alarm will then cause a TX
switch and then the newly online TX will show the silent TX alarm and then TX switch and
that sequence will continue indefinitely. Workaround is to enable any capacity on the DPP
ES-26232 RAC70 1+1 Backplane Note: The use of backplane only ethernet traffic in a protected
configuration is not recommended. Using a protected 1+1 RAC70 set up configured to
use ethernet backplane traffic, a 2-15second traffic hit may be expected after a TX switch.
This situation is seen up to 50% of the time. Workaround is to configure only DPP traffic.
ES-27233 ANSI 3.75MHz: Profile can occasionally not set. Occurrence is rare, but if this condition is
& ES-27202 experienced, power cycle the INU and retry.
ES-27261 RAC60E (EXR-660-002) and DAC161v3 (EXD-161-002) If a chassis is set up without a
ODU / IRU connected communication drops (Maintenance v24 and network) and INU can
rebooting itself. Workaround is to connect an ODU or IRU to the RAC and the problem is
not seen.
ES-27294 RAC 70 L1LA: Frame size failure, if using 1024QAM. Workaround is to limit modulation
to 512QAM, this limitation will be removed in 8.6 release SW
ES-27292 RAC60/70: If a RAC60/6X is upgraded to a RAC70/7X Output power will show -100dB
down on modulations QPSK and 16QAM. To rectify this, perform a slot ‘Clear Module
Configuration’ in Portal. NOTE that if any such major change is made, the old slot config
should always be cleared. Current RAC’s and DACGE3 / NCM all store configuration data
in an onboard flash that should always be cleared before a change in module type.
ES-27309 RAC6X: 100% packet loss on 60/80MHz ANSI XPIC capable profiles over backplane,
DPP is unaffected, do not use these profiles with RAC60 over the backplane
Key Summary
PCR: "Tx PWR Fail" trace follows the wrong alarm. When a Remote Communications
90862 Failure is raised on a RAC 30A, the PCR file records this as a Tx PWR Fail, this is now
resolved and reports correctly to PCR. Now Resolved ES-25997
Eclipse – Protected IRU600’s + DAC GE3: Unidirectional loss of packet traffic (TDM is
95543 unaffected) replicated in the lab by initiating a RAC switch to secondary and performing a soft
reset. Present in 08.02.18 software. Now Resolved ES-26368
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
ES-25295 Strong Security users please note. The following four OpenSSL ciphers are now seen
as less secure than when first released and are therefore recommended not to be used:
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
They are still listed in Eclipse SW and normal operation is supported when any of these
ciphers are selected. In a future release Aviat will remove these four DHE ciphers.
Portal : A PC with a pre 5.3 version of Portal will not be able to communicate with a radio
that has been configured for secure management (Basic or Strong), until it has
acquired a 5.3 version of Portal.
ES-14902
The easiest way to update to a 5.3 version of Portal is to connect your Portal PC
to an Eclipse radio running version 5.3, with its security setting configured to
"none".
Portal: This note applies to customers who run software version 5.1 or earlier with basic
security enabled (requiring a user name and password to login in Portal) and who
decided to upgrade to software version 5.4 or later. The customer shall be aware
that passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" users will be reset to
default values (port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. In
some cases security mode will be also turned to "Off".
ES-16214
This happens starting version 5.4 the way how Eclipse stores password has been
changed to meet more strict FIPS 140-2 security requirements.
Customer shall reconfigure security mode and passwords to desired values after
the upgrade.
This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will not
reset passwords.
Portal: Software 5.4 and later changed RADIUS server value for "View" permission. It is
ES-16346
important that customers upgrading from 5.3 to 5.4 update their RADIUS server
The Compact Flash (CF) card for Eclipse holds configuration, software load, and license data. It inserts into the
side of the NCC plug-in used with the INU/INUe.
New plug-in modules, such as the RAC 60, RAC 6X,DAC GE3 and NCM, CF cards with an increased
memory capacity of 512Mb or greater are required and in some case new NCC cards.
Prior to July 2009, 32 Mbyte was the available capacity for Eclipse use (this is the internal partition size
programmed into the CF), and all CF cards were partitioned 32 Mb regardless of the labelled total capacity of
the CF.
NCC cards manufactured before January 2008 do not support access to CF cards partitioned larger than
32Mbyte.
Before installing RAC 60, RAC 6X or DAC GE3 in an existing INU you must first check to see if a higher
capacity CF card is needed, and if so, that the NCC will also support the higher capacity CF.
When upgrading software ensure the remote end of a link is upgraded before the local end.
• If Portal loses communication with an IDU 300 SP radio when changing the IP address, restart Portal to
restore communication.
• Eclipse Portal Software version 5.0 includes an upgrade to Java version 6.0. This later version of Java
provides improved memory management and operational performance. It provides a fix for occasional low
memory issues that have been reported on heavily loaded systems. It is recommended that users install
Eclipse Portal 5.0 or later from the Eclipse SW Setup CD or from the Aviat Networks Customer Online
Support site at www.support.aviatnetworks.com.
The note below, seen on Portal screens, relates to this issue.
• Note that this software includes open source items and as such users have a right to access source code.
Contact [email protected] for details.
Note: ATI video cards installed with a ‘Catalyst driver’ set earlier than 4.9 will cause the Portal performance
page to stop working if the screen-saver activates. The workaround is to install the latest video drivers from the
video card manufacturer.
Aviat Networks encourages its customers to report problems so we can resolve them as
quickly as possible. If you encounter a technical issue, please contact us using the
information on page 2 of these Release Notes.
