Numerical And Engineering Optimization Methods


It is the simplest course in mathematics. Doesn’t require much of effort. There are
a given number of optimization methods in the course, we just need to learn one
formula per method. It is highly scoring subject. The list of methods will be
provided to you by the teacher. I am attaching 2 books for this course. You just
need to see the methods in the course and learn their formula.

Circuits and Systems


This course has a part similar to basic electrical engineering in the first year. It is a
tricky subject and people get low marks in this subject. This subject would require
effort. But the good part is that the course is covered in a single and simple book : -
Circuit and Systems by K.M.Soni. Buy this book and I recommend to not miss the
lectures of this subject. Most probably, this course will be taken by Prof. Bhaskar,
who isn’t very student friendly.

Electronic Devices and Circuits


This is a purely electronic subject. It also requires thorough study. Again, do not
miss lectures of this subject. This is a course which you must understand, otherwise
4th sem and 5th sem will also suffer. Paper and course is from a single book -
Behzad Razavi. Buy it. Behzad Razavi has also uploaded videos on youtube related
to this course. They are a must watch to understand this subject. The videos are
very slow and one hour long for each topic, so you cannot rely on watching the
videos just before the exam. Try watching them side by side.

Electromechanical Energy Conversion and Transformer


This is a pure electrical subject based on DC Machines. Just buy one book -
Electrical Machines by Ashfaq Hussain. It will be useful in 4th sem aswell. Study
from this book. But remember, if your teacher is S.K.Valluru, then you will have a
hard time. Valluru doesn’t like Ashfaq Hussain and if Valluru sets the paper, then
you have to study from A.E.Fitzgerald aswell. I recommend on buying Ashfaq
Hussain and you can study Fitzgerald from its free PDF. Moreover, if you get
Valluru as the teacher, do keep a check on the books he brings in class to teach, he
gives exact same questions from the solved examples of those books.

One such book that he brings is Electrical Machines by Tunen Gonen. It should be
used only for unit 1 of the course. Its link is :-

Engineering Analysis and Design


Simplest and scoring subject. It has no course book. Just class notes. Its a course
based on MATLAB programming. Do not buy any book or download PDF. Just pay
attention in class, teacher will give questions from the class notes only, since there
is no book.

Engineering Economics
Buy Engineering Economics by Seema Singh. Paper is directly from the back
questions of this book. Read a night before exam and you’re done.

Most important subject is Electronic Devices and Circuits. Then is Circuit and
systems. Rest all are very easy. Remember, its easier to gain marks by
submitting all assignments on time and having good attendance than
arguing with teacher for 1-2 marks in the mid/end sem answer-sheets.
