In language arts, students reviewed short vowel sounds, practiced sight words and spelling. They also learned about plot elements and identifying subjects in sentences. In math, students solved subtraction equations and word problems using addition and subtraction. In science, students analyzed weather data they collected over three weeks. They also took an assessment on the material. The class enjoyed a field trip to the fire station where they learned fire safety and saw firefighting equipment.

First Grade at the Fire Station

Fire Safety
We had a great field trip to the Fire Station. Make sure to check out the
pictures on our website. We learned basic fire safety techniques, saw a
firefighter dressed to fight a fire. We got to see the trucks, equipment, and
spray the hose!
STUDENTS were CHALLENGED to tell you about what they learned. Their
homework was to tell you about it; to ask you to check the smoke detector
batteries; and to talk to you about a FAMILY MEETING PLACE should a fire
occur. I am giving them their coloring book, safety badge, & pencil as a
reward for following through on that assignment!
