Skill Practices - Passing

This document provides instructions for three volleyball passing drills: 1. Perfect passes - Students take turns as a tosser, passer, and target to practice accurate passes without the target moving their feet. The student with the most hits to the target wins. 2. Pass and weave - A passer weaves through cones while passing balls tossed over the net from three tossers. Students rotate roles to practice both passing and tossing. 3. Mix it up madness - Partners take turns feeding and receiving passes that incorporate forearm passes, fists, sets, and passes down in quick succession, attempting to complete as many as possible. They can try spiking the last ball over the net.

Skill Practices: Passing

Perfect passes
1. This drill requires 3 students per group, a
tosser, passer and the target
2. The tosser throws the ball to the passer
with a type 2 ball flight
3. The passer must then try to hit the target
without them having to move their feet
from the position they are in
4. Every time they hit the target they receive a point
5. After 5 attempts, rotate roles and the student with the most targets hit is the winner

Pass and weave

1. One student is on one side of the net with a number of cones spread in an
obstacle course in front of them
2. On the other side are the three ball tossers, they will take turns from left to right
tossing the ball over the net for the passer
3. The passer must weave in and out of the cones whilst watching the balls, so they
can pass them back to the tossers
side
4. The passer must be aware of the
cones whilst focusing on getting
good passes
5. The passer will try get as many of
the 3 back and then each student
rotates anticlockwise so that all
students get a turn at both roles

Mix it up madness
1. This is a partner drill that focuses on all types of hitting in quick succession
2. One student will feed the ball to the other who will hit a forearm pass up, a left fist,
right fist, set and then pass down back to the feeder
3. The passer must attempt to get as many of these passes in a row possible whilst still
getting it back to the feeder
4. After 5 attempts, the students swap roles and the feeder attempts the same
5. If students are doing well at the
drill, they can go over the net
with the last hit and try to hit a
spike or deep shot
