The Technology Process

The document outlines the technology design process, which includes several stages: Explore, Make Sense, Generate, Apply, and Evaluate. In the Explore stage, students define the issue, purpose, functional and adornment aspects. In Make Sense, students specify requirements. In Generate, students brainstorm ideas and develop draft designs. In Apply, students manufacture a prototype. In Evaluate, students assess how well their design fulfilled the goals. The process is meant to guide students through developing a design with evidence and testing their final prototype.

GRAND DESIGNS

The Process of Design: Part Two

THE TECHNOLOGY PROCESS

For this unit of work you have been asked to support your design process with evidence.
Use the Technology Process to help with your thinking and to support your ideas.

Use a new page for each heading. Make sure you include a title page for the unit of work
and include the Design Process Criteria document.

EXPLORE!
ISSUE
● What is the issue?

● What have I been asked to do?

● Define Functional

● Define Adornment

BRIEF
● Why have I been asked to do this?
In the Grand Designs module I have been asked to….

STAKEHOLDERS (PEOPLE INVOLVED)

● Who would this benefit?

● Who will be involved?

MAKE SENSE!
SPECIFICATIONS
● Are there any other specifications?

● Does it need to be made to scale, proportion?

● What mathematics do I need to include or learn in order to complete my design

well?

GENERATE!
IDEAS (CONCEPTS)
● What could you make?
Create a collage of different design ideas. You might wish to use magazines or websites
like Pinterest, Instagram, We love it, Raverley, Etsy or YouTube.
Please reference where you get the idea from to acknowledge the original creator.

DEVELOPMENT (DRAFT DESIGNS)
Take your ideas and develop them further.
● How could you make the idea different?
● How could you make the idea function better?
● How could you make the idea drape better when worn?
Note: This part will take several pages. Use a new page for each idea that you decide to
develop. Include your measurements, annotations and if possible material samples and
colours to your design.

FINAL DESIGN/FINAL BRIEF & SPECIFICATIONS

Choose the design that you wish to make into a prototype.
Complete a final drawing with measurements and specifications.
Write a description of the product.

TESTING WITHIN LOCATION/ENVIRONMENT
● Does your prototype work?
● Does it work well in the chosen environment?
Test in the correct place with the overall concept completed.

EVALUATE!
EVALUATION
● How do you feel you went with the design process?
● Did you meet all of the specifications?
● Does your prototype fit the concepts of functional or adnorment?
● Are you happy with your product?
● Did you need to make any changes to your final design during the manufacturing
stage?
● What do your peers think of your work?
