Email Bangladesh and Its People: Invitation To Spend Summer Vacation
Bangladesh is a small but nice country. Its land area is 1, 47,570 square kilometers. It became independent
in 1971after a nine months long struggle for independence. It is a tropical country. It is called a land of
rivers as it is criss-crossed by hundreds and thousands of rivers and tributaries. Our land is very fertile. The
natural beauty of the country is very charming. The spring is the most beautiful season among six seasons
when nature smiles with sights and sounds. The Sundarbans, the forests of hilly districts, the tea gardens of
Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar sea beach etc. are the important tourist attractions of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has too big a population. Most of the people are Muslims. There are also Hindu, Buddhist and
Christian communities in our country. About 80 percent of people live in the villages. Most people are
farmers. The hospitality of our people is world famous. We entertain our guests heartily. Rice and fish is our
main food. We have our own dress. Males wear lungi and women wear a sari. We observe various kinds of
festivals gorgeously almost all the year round. Pahela Baishakh is the biggest celebration in which all the
people join. We want love and peace. We are proud of our country, our culture and heritage.
Hope you are well. You haven’t written me for a long time. Is it a very hard task to send a mail?
However, my school is going to be closed for summer vacation and yours also. I am going to spend the
summer vacation at my village home at Jessore and you are cordially invited to my village to spend the
vacation. It is a very beautiful village. The natural beauty of my village is very charming. There are many
scopes to pass time like we can catch fish in the river, ponds and marshy lands, can walk by the side of the
river, can play football in the open fields, can pick mangoes and black berry from the orchard, and also can
enjoy the fresh and formalin free foods as well as different kinds of homemade cakes. If you come, both of
us will pass a great time. I will take you to Sagor Dari, the birth place of Michael Modhusudan Dutt. There
are also many interesting places to visit.
I believe your stay in the village will relief you from the boredom of city life. The rural environment will
refresh your mind and restore your energy.
My dear mother,
My salam to you and dad. Hope, you all are keeping in good health by the grace of the Almighty. I am doing
fine too.
I know you are very curious to know about my hostel life. The environment of my hostel is very charming.
It is a two-storied building within our school compound. There is an open field in front of my hostel. I and
my friends play here every afternoon. My hostel life is very happy and enjoyable. I can study here
attentively. Strict discipline is maintained in every step of hostel life. The hostel superintendent looks after
the administration and academic affairs. He loves the students very much. Living here, I get opportunity to
follow some rules and regulations. All the students are very helpful and friendly. We exchange our views
regarding many affairs. The foods are of high quality. The canteen and dining room are also neat and clean.
In a word, I feel very happy living here. This is all for now.
I was very unhappy and full of grief to read the email of your class teacher who informed me that you have
started moving in the company of bad boys. Your class teacher has made a very strong complaint against
you and this is really shocking news as it was not expected of you.
It is the matter of sorrow to know that you have failed in school unit test. Moreover you have started
bunking classes to see movies and also have started smoking. If this tendency continues, the day may not be
very far when you will start gambling, consuming alcohol and taking drugs.
You must know that a man is known by the company he keeps. If you continue moving in bad company, you
will spoil your life and also bring bad name to your school and family. As we are not a rich family, we
cannot afford to waste even a single taka. Moreover, Father has very high hopes for you.
I, therefore, advise you to avoid bad company immediately and devote time to studies sincerely and whole-
heartedly.
I hope that you will not give me a chance to receive the same complaint against you.
About future of ICT in Bangladesh
My dear Rakib,
I received your e-mail yesterday. You have wanted to know about future of ICT in Bangladesh. I am going
to telling about it.
Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in the ICT sector, especially in the last five years or so.
Bangladesh currently has three fibre optic connections with India apart from submarine cables. The
government has planned to establish similar connections with Nepal and Bhutan and fibre optic cable
connections had been ensured up to the northern district of Rangpur. Now, the yearly export from the ICT
sector has crossed 300 million dollars, around two lakh jobs have been generated in this sector. The
authorities are now in the process of establishing ICT parks including the Kaliakoir Hi-tech Park in Gazipur
and Jessore Software Technology Park. Planned projects include Mohakhalili IT Village in Dhaka, Barendra
Silicon City in Rajshahi District, and Sylhet Electronic City in Sylhet. The parks will be connected by both
road and railway to facilitate investors. The authorities have provided high-speed internet connectivity in
public universities at no cost.
The information and communication technology (ICT) revolution enable 160 million Bangladeshis to
embrace the Internet on which the country’s entrepreneurial leaders can pin their hopes for the future.
