I. RATIONALE

The paper industry plays a very important role in the economic

development of our country providing employment opportunities for
thousands of people. Unluckily, its products also adds up to the waste
generation contributing 19% of the total community solid waste
production making waste paper according to Environmental Institute
Studies, as the second most produced solid waste in the Philippines .
Based on the DepEd Order No. 93, s. 2011, one of the mandated
programs, projects and activities of the Youth for Environment in Schools
Organization (YES-O) is Zero Waste Management Program.
In lieu with this, a project entitled PRP (Paper Recycling Program)
is a great prospective to recycle waste papers in the school.

Is there an existing concern or potential problem you want to address?

The school yields great amount of paper waste everyday. Instead
of being a contributor of unmanageable solid waste piled up in the dump
sites, let's do something and take advantage out of it through proper
waste disposal and recycling. This can make the school environment
friendly and at the same time it offers good opportunities to fund raising
venture of the school.

1. To reduce the paper waste in the school premises
2. To increase the responsiveness of the students to recycle.

to the project.
2. Monitoring and evaluation will be administered
3. Continous waste management campaigns.
4. Financial reports will be submitted by the proponent every end of the month.
5. Narrative report will be submitted by the proponent at the end of the school
year.

What are the linkages with other initiatives or reform in the sector and other
development or governance concerns?
The project can be associated to RA 9003, or known as the "Ecological
Solid Waste Management Act of 2000," mandates that segregation and
collection of solid waste at source shall be conducted at the barangay level
specifically for the biodegradable, composable, and recycled wastes and that
respective cities and municipalities shall promote initiatives in the community
to undertake waste segregation and collection at source pursuant to the spirit
of the law.
In lie with this, the school would to partake in this directive which instils a
culture of responsible waste management im students while helping schools
lessen their waste. With a simple change of habit, our school can observe its
worth to our atmosphere and environment.
