Why Teenagers Are Getting Addicted in Social Media

Teenagers are getting addicted to social media for several reasons. They feel a sense of recognition and praise from others when they get likes and comments on their posts. This rewards their brain in a similar way to other addictive behaviors. Additionally, teens may turn to social media when feeling overwhelmed, curious, lonely, stressed, bored or depressed as a way to forget their worries and feel better. The constant seeking of followers, likes and feedback can become an addiction as their developing brains are highly responsive to external stimuli. While social media allows connection, it may also negatively impact teens' mental health and development.

Why teenagers are getting addicted in social media ?

Social media are interactive computer-mediate technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of
information ideas, career interests and other forms of Expression Via Virtual Communities and networks .
Many of people give a lot of attention to their phones so they can see and understand what’s going on in the
world in terms of pop cultures .(Malik 2015).

The use of social appshas become an integral part of most people’s lives. It also plays a major role in the
lives of the children once they are old enough to understand how to access and use these apps . On average ,
children start exploring social media at around ages 10 to 12 .

Nowadays, more adolescents concerned with establishing interaction relations through cyberspace, most
of the adolescents choose to express their arguments and express their positive and negative expressions
through social media ( Wang et al., 2018). In social media, adolescents feel recognized by others, they get
praises, like or comment when they post something on their social media, so that's the way they feel they get
more noticed by others (Griffiths & Kuss, 2017).

Study 1 showed that the addictive use of social media was common among college students and that it
was negatively associated with mental health and academic performance. One important follow-up question is
whether social media addiction can be reduced and thus its negative associations with health and academic
outcomes be alleviated. No study that we know of has considered intervention options for social media
addiction. We therefore designed an intervention program for social media addiction based on Young's (1999)
recommendations for the treatment of Internet addiction, and we conducted an experiment to verify its
effectiveness.

Teenagers are today’s most profuse users of social networking sites (SNS). Contemporary youth are
growing up in a cultural setting in which many aspects of their lives will be mediated by social media and many
of their experiences and opportunities will be shaped by their engagement with SNS. Subsequently, questions
and controversies emerge about the effects SNS have on adolescent development due to how embedded their
lives are in social media. A systematic review of fifteen articles was used in gathering information on the effects
of SNS on adolescents’ social and emotional development. The studies gathered concluded that there are both
risks and benefits to teenager’s social and emotional development when it comes to the use SNS .

There isn’t a part of adolesence that isn’t affected by social media and gaming these days – so what re
parents do before it’s too late? (Baron 2018) . Like any addictive behavior there is always bound to be a
correlation between that and mental health issues .

As humans, we are wired to adopt, and as teens currently"in development",the brain is actually

growing and adopting in response to behaviors and outside stimuli in real-time.People become more reliant on
literary and technological devices, they will be more stressed out as well as ignore each other on the
trolleys, busses, and trains. The fear was that we would become less social because of reading.

The telltale signs of addiction to the internet and social media are within the range of compulsive-
impulsive spectrum disorders. The earlier that the brain rewards itself for social and "personal best"
achievements on computers and apps, the longer we will depend upon devices to get those rewards. There is a
mental and emotional release when getting a top score or achieving likes and shares beyond normal.
Why are some teenagers are getting on social media? Well , some teen may get addicted to social media
because he/she may be feeling overwhelmed , curious , lonely , stress , bored and depressed or even anxious
about something and may decide to go online and kill time. Once in the virtual world of the social media he/she
will most likely forget his worries and feel better.

I, for one, was not surprised. Like any addictive behavior, there is always bound to be a correlation
between that and mental health issues. Cause and effect; effect and cause. Between the brain connection to a
behavior or substance and the brain to itself. As humans, we are wired to adapt, and as teens currently "in
development," the brain is actually growing and adapting in response to behaviors and outside stimuli in real-
time. It was supposed to be the end of civilization—everyone was nose-deep in a newspaper or book, and riding
the train or sitting in a cafe became more about me-time than interacting with your fellow neighbor. that as
people become more reliant on literary and technological devices, they will be more stressed out as well as
ignore each other on the trolleys, buses, and trains. The fear was that we would become less social because of
reading—or because of the telegraph, phonograph, radio, or computer.

Some teens may constantly be on social media platforms to hunt for more followers, make their posts
the best that they can be, or find a way to get more likes on their posts. As many parents probably already know,
their teenage kids can be absolutely addicted to social media. And with the various websites and array of social
media platforms, sometimes teens can spend all day glued to their screens. While I’m not exactly defending
teens’ reasons to be stuck on social media all day, enlightening others is a good goal to have when trying to
raise awareness about the potential negative impacts that social media can have.

But today's"device in hand"society seems a bit more insidious and harmful, especially for teens who is
learning behaviors that may guide them for life.
